Ballymena & Provincial League: Carniny claim first win

CARNINY Amateurs’ long wait for a victory in the Ballymena & Provincial Intermediate League came to an end on Saturday – and in some style.

Jordan Graham hit a hat-trick as Anthony McCartney’s side crushed neighbours Clough Rangers Athletic 5-1 at the Showgrounds 3G to earn their first three-pointer in this season’s Michelin Athletic Club-sponsored championship.

Elsewhere, Raceview’s recent run of good form came to a halt when they were beaten 3-1 at Dunloy.


Matches involving locally-based sides this Saturday, December 1, are:

Intermediate League: Magherafelt Sky Blues v Carniny Amateurs.

Junior Division One: Ballyclare Com Res v Antrim Rovers.

Junior Division Two: Chimney Corner Res v FC Larne; Wakehurst Strollers v Castle Star; Carniny Amateurs II v Red Star.

Crawford Cup, round two: Raceview v Encore FC.


Dunloy 3, Raceview 1: It’s the team that makes the most of their chances that usually wins game and in this Dunloy were better than Raceview on Saturday.

Dunloy went in front after Benny McGarry scored on the 22nd minute then followed with a second goal scored by John John McFerran on the 33rd minute.

Eddie McCloskey made it three nil for Dunloy on the 47th minute before Raceview struck the Dunloy Post and Crossbar in quick succession.

Raceview then had another great chance to score but failed to convert penalty on the 65th minute. Time was then beginning to run down with Raceview finally getting a goal scored by Colin Craig on the 75th minute.

Carniny Amateurs 5, Clough Rangers Athletic 1: Carniny took an early lead in this game after Barry Hamill scored on the 8th minute then followed this with a second goal scored by Jordan Graham on the 19th minute.

Clough also had a good chance or two then with half-time almost reached they got on the score

Both teams had chances to score in the second half before Michael O’Mullan scored for Carniny on the 70th minute then on the 80th minute Clough had a man sent off.

Time was almost up when Jordan Graham scored twice on the 89th and 92nd minutes to complete his hat-trick.

Antrim Rovers 2, FC Ballynure Reserves 0: This tie had been postponed twice due to the weather but got played on Saturday.

In a very tight first 45 minutes no goals were scored by either team.

The deadlock was than broken on the 62nd minute when Ballynure conceded an own goal then went two goals behind after Jonny Rogers scored for the Rovers on the 69th minute.

Ballynure tried hard to get back into the game after this but at the final whistle the day belonged to the Rovers.
