Ballymena & Provincial League: Defeat ends Clough's hopes of cup glory

Clough Rangers Athletic's hopes of a final shot at Ballymena & Provincial League knockout glory came to a shuddering halt on Saturday.

The Cloughwater Road side bowed out of the Linda Welshman Memorial Cup after they were beaten 7-2 on their home ground by Ballynure Old Boys ‘B’ in a third rtound tie.

It was also a miserable day for Antrim Rovers, with both the Forum side’s first team and Swifts outfit suffering heavy defeats in Junior Divisions One and Three respectively.

Newington YC II 10, Antrim Rovers 1: Thomas Bownes put the Rovers ahead on the 2nd minute then Newington came back with Ryan Davidson and Mark Kelly scoring on the 13th and 15th minutes.

Half-time saw Newington lead by one which became two after Daniel Moore scored on the 48th minute.

After this Newington went on to score another seven goals through Mark Kelly 51st, Liam McBride 60th, Ryan McCluskey 63rd, 65th and 88th, Ryan Davidson 75th and Daniel Moore 88th minute.

JUNIOR DIVISION TWO

JUNIOR DIVISION THREE

Antrim Rovers Swifts 0, 3rd Ballyclare OB 8: Ballyclare went in front after Steven Howe scored on the 6th minute then added a second goal when Marc Campbell converted a penalty on the 9th minute.

Steven Howe scored his second goal on the 22nd minute followed by Marc Campbell scoring on the 26th minute.

Steven Howe completed his hat-trick on the 27th minute then scored his fourth goal in the game on the 45th minute.

Marc Campbell completed his hat-trick on the 55th minute then the last goal was scored by Sammy Duff on the 75th minute.

Carnlough Swifts 3, 1st Carrickfergus OB 5: Carrick led by two goals scored by Philip Crozier on the 15th minute and Ryan Clawson on the 38th minute at half-time.

Clawson scored his second goal in the game on the 54th minute before Niall Hamill scored for Carnlough on the 56th minute.

Adam McIlrath scored for Carrick on the 67th minute then Niall Hamill scored his second goal on the 68th minute.

Ryan Clawson completed his hat-trick on the 75th minute.

It was followed by the final goal in the game being scored for Carnlough by Declan McDermott on the 86th minute.

Other result: Hillhead Eagles 1, Castle Star 9.

LINDA WELSHMAN MEMORIAL CUP

Clough Rangers Athletic 2, Ballynure Old Boys ‘B’ 7: This was a good day for Robert Houston who scored five goals for Ballynure.

The visitors raced into a four goal lead with a hat-trick from Houston and a goal from Ross McFaul before Richard Ross got a goal back for Clough before half-time.

Robert Watson scored a fifth goal for Ballynure before Dean Adams scored a second goal for Clough.

Robert Houston then scored a brace of goals for Ballynure to complete the scoring on the day.
