Ballymena & Provincial League: Win lifts Clough away from foot of table

CLough Rangers Athletic put some breathing space between themselves and the teams at the bottom of the Ballymena & Provincial League's Junior Division Two on Saturday.

Jimmy Rock’s side beat Moyola Park Olympic - the side directly below them in second bottom position - by six goals to three.

But in the same division, Wakehurst Strollers’ title aspirations suffered a blow when they lost to Larne Olympic.

CHimney Corner 0, Magherafelt Sky Blues 1: This was a very closely contested game for the entire duration of the match. The Sky Blues went in front after Stanislav Pulko scored on the 15th minute and at half-time this goal still separated the teams.

The second half saw both teams go for goals but at the final whistle it was the early first-half goal that decided the outcome.

JUNIOR DIVISION ONE

Antrim Rovers 2, Cookstown Olympic 0: Antrim got off to a quick start with Anton Watson scoring on the second minute of the game.

Half-time saw the single goal still divide the teams then on the 78th minute Jonny Rogers converted a penalty for Antrim sealing the win.

Larne Olympic 2, Wakehurst Strollers 1: Larne went in front after Brian Heggarty scored on the 21st minute and this goal separated the teams at half-time.

Strollers got back level after player/manager Jason Connolly scored on the 47th minute then on the 68th minute Chris Dempsey scored to put the Olympic back in front and Larne defended their one goal advantage until the final whistle.

Clough Rangers Athletic 6, Moyola Park Olympic 3: Goals were the order of the day in this high scoring game which saw Richard Ross give Clough the lead when he scored on the 4th minute.

Steven McGurk equalised for Moyola on the 20th minute then Richard Ross restored the Clough advantage scoring on the 27th minute. Jon Mulholland equalised for Moyola on the 34th minute then an own goal conceded by Clough saw Moyola in front on the 51st minute.

William Dunlop put Clough back level on the 69th minute followed by a penalty converted by Colin Stewart on the 77th minute saw Clough back in front.

Time was then running down when Richard Ross brought his tally to four in the game with goals scored on the 79th and 86th minutes.

JUNIOR DIVISION THREE

Antrim Rovers Swifts 2, Hillhead Eagles 4: Charlie O’Grady put the Swifts in front on the 5th minute of the game then Ben Johnston equalised for the Eagles sending the teams in level at half-time.

Matthew Montgomery scored early in the second half putting the Swifts back in front but the Eagles hit back with goals scored by Ben Johnston, Liam Stewart and Ricky Hassan to collect all three points at the end.
