Ballymena manager David Jeffrey took time to praise Tony Kane after Saturday’s 1-0 win against Ballinamallard United at Ferney Park.

Kane kept his cool to score the winner from the penalty spot in the second half as the Sky Blues claimed the first victory of their league campaign.

The midfielders delivery also caused the Mallards and Glenavon all sorts of problems.

And Jeffrey says Kane has started the season brightly.

“Anthony has been doing really well. He is a quality player and he is a team player and I really appreciate that he can play centrally, he can play wide right and he can play at full-back.

“ He is a quality player. And he a totally professional in his approach to the game,” added Jeffrey.

And the Ballymena manager is happy with the start his side has made to the new league campaign.

“It was a very tough start, You play the league champions and then you play the Irish Cup holders.

“People would have thought we would have got nothing from those games, so to get a point from them was fine.

“And then to get the three points against Ballinamallard United is very encouraging,” said the former Linfield manager.
