Carniny Youth FC has no less than six teams currently in action at the Hughes Insurance Foyle Cup Competition up in the North West of the Province.
The prestigious competition has over 200 teams competing across all the age groups.
The U12s (2004s) will gain great experience playing against a Sheffield Utd Academy side whilst the U14s (2002s) have been put in the same group as Scottish Giants Glasgow Celtic.
The local Ballymena club has a long association with the tournament over the last ten years, when their first entrants back in 2007 included an impressive squad that included current Manchester United and Northern Ireland star Patrick McNair.
MBE FOR FORMER COACH
All at Carniny Amateur & Youth FC send congratulations to former club coach John Platt who received an MBE in the recent Queens Birthday Honours list.
John was a former player with Cliftonville and during a long teaching career included a spell as Principal at Broughshane Primary School.
John coached for a time with the Carniny 1998 team which included several players who have moved on to Irish League senior football such as Matthew Shevlin currently with Ballymena United.
Club secretary Billy O’Flaherty stated: “John was a very popular coach especially with the young players and was able to pass on the vast experience he had gained from his playing days. All at Carniny wish him every success and hope he enjoyed his day at the Palace.”
As always Carniny Amateur and Youth FC are currently on the look out for enthusiastic aspiring coaches and are particularly interested in recruiting coaches for their Football Development Centre currently catering for children born in 2012, 2011, 2010, 2009 and 2009.
