Parents and players alike were treated on the Junior Open Night to a series of drills from the Coerver coaching manual, applied by the Club’s numerous Coerver Youth Diploma qualified coaches.

Wakehurst first team manager Paul Muir was in attendance on both nights and together with Jason Connolly, Wakehurst Strollers manager, had a good discussion with the U16 and U17 teams, outlining his plans for football career progression from youth football right up to first team football within the ambitious Club.

With a number of youth players having already represented Wakehurst Strollers in pre-season matches, a number of the remaining players will be given the opportunity to display their talents at this level, in the coming weeks and months.

BALLYMONEY TOURNAMENT

Northend United had two teams, the U9s and U10s, travel to Ballymoney on Saturday at the invitation of their hosts, Ballymoney Youth, to play in another very well organised tournament.

The local boys came up against teams of the calibre of Belfast Big Four Glentoran and crack Dublin side, Loudres Celtic, not to mention local Irish League Academy sides, Ballymena United and Coleraine.

After two close games which resulted in narrow defeats, the under-9 side got through to the quarter finals against Ballymoney United.

A 2-1 victory by the Ballymena Boys saw them through to play Oxford United Stars in the semi final.

After racing to a 2 goal lead, the heat and long season got the better of the team with Oxford running out 4-2 winners.

The under-10s enjoyed victories over Ballymoney Academy, Ballymena Town and Lourdes Celtic before losing 3-1 to their old adversaries Coleraine - with whom they have had some great battles over the past season - at the quarter-final stage.
