BUYA round-up: U-13s secure National League title

A talented group, they have led the league for the entire campaign in this their debut season in the National League.

Coaches Alan Millar and Philip Galloway have been delighted with the boys’ progress and with the National League cup still to play for, the season continues for these boys.

The under 11s put on a brilliant display to defeat high flying Lisburn Youth, setting them up nicely for their derby game with Carniny in the Northern Ireland cup semis,two of the province’s top four sides coming from the town.

The under 15s turned on the style against Cookstown with a great victory.

UNDER-11

Lisburn Youth 3, BUYA 4: A great win for the under 11’s setting them up nicely for their National semi final next week against Carniny.

UNDER-13

Maiden City 0, BUYA 2: On a somewhat nervy day, when a few of United’s star performers this season were not at their best, a solid team display in the end saw the Sky Blues home.

A well placed Jack Millar effort in the top corner finally settled any nerves as the Braid boys began to dominate this game.

Maiden started to win the midfield battle and some reorganising at half time seemed to help the Skies gain the initiative once more.

Sub Bailey Young entered the fray and his physical presence led to him racing clear to lob the keeper before another race off in celebration.

Keeper Mark Wilkinson kept United in the game with some trademark reflex stops,especially of note a superb second half effort to deny the Londonderry boys.

Adam Neilly and Callum Ross at the back were outstanding for United on the day where they saw out the game for the celebrations to begin.

United continue their league cup campaign in Strabane on Saturday.

The boys will receive the league trophy at the under 11 National semi final in Clough on 8 April.

UNDER-14

Derry Colts 5, BUYA 1: A tough day for the under 14’s against one of the leagues strongest outfits, they have a number of home games to look forward to now.

UNDER-15

BUYA 3, Cookstown 0: After 2 weeks without a game due to the poor weather, the sky blues were glad to be back playing football.

The fear of the boys being a bit rusty were banished as the Sky Blues controlled the game from start to finish.

The midfield trio of Sam Cummings, Luke Calderwood & the stylish Jack Preston were superb and linked up well on a number of occasions to create a few good chances for the forward pairing of Daniel Black & Matthew Armstrong.

On 23 mins, after good work in the middle of the park, Daniel Black put the Sky Blues 1 up with a good finish.

Ten mins into the second half and Ballymena’s domination paid off when the hard working Luke Calderwood finished well from inside the box.

The sky blues made some changes and Benji Agnew came on and proved how good he can be with some brilliant play and was rewarded when he fired home a penalty in some style to make it 3-0.
