Carniny U-12s in seven-th heaven after tournament success

Carniny Youth Under 12s started their week with a bang when they won the Larne Youth Soccer 7s on Easter Monday, made even sweeter, by knocking out both local rivals, Northend Utd and Ballymena Utd YA on their way to lifting the trophy.

They also rounded off their week with a super 7-2 win over Dungannon Youth on the Saturday and can now look forward to a trip away to Paris, when they play PSG U12s and 13s before enjoying a well earned leisure trip to Euro Disney.

EX-PLAYERS MAKE UNITED DEBUTS

With the Irish Cup Final approaching, Glenn Ferguson took the opportunity to give some local youngsters the chance to shine for the Ballymena United First team last Saturday against Ards. Well done to Jake Carson, Jason Johnston, Nicky Black and Jack Graham, who were all in the squad, with all getting playing time on the pitch.

On the flip side, another former Carniny Youth player, Samuel McIlveen received a Man of the Match Award last Saturday for Ballymena’s cup opponents, Glenavon, in their match with Linfield. Samuel will be hopeful of being named in the squad this Saturday.

UNDER-9

Carniny Youth 5, Roe Valley 0: Carniny, attempting to maintaine their 100 per cent record in 2014, went ahead after a Roe Valley defender put the ball into his own goal.

In the second half, Magee won a tackle before firing home the second goal and from the restart, Neill won the ball and squared for Magee to score his second.

Graham fired home a trademark free kick for the fourth and Carniny saved the best for last Neill’s cross was turned in by the supporting Moody.

As a joint best placed runner up, it went to a sudden death shoot out with 2 other teams – Roe Valley & Bertie Peacocks. Ultimately it was Roe Valley who held their nerve and won the last semi final spot.

Carniny Youth 0, Dungiven Celtic 1: Carniny faced runaway league champions Dungiven Celtic in the Semi-Final of the NWCDYL Plate at Ballysally on Saturday.

Carniny almost scored with five minutes left when Niall Pogue from 25 yards who superbly volleyed towards goal and with the keeper helpless the ball crashed off the crossbar and clear.

But with seconds left, and on the brink of extra time, a Dungiven striker broke free from his marker and wrong-footed the Carniny Keeper with a low strike to send them to the final.

UNDER-12

Carniny Youth 7, Dungannon Youth 2: Despite only arriving with 10 players, it was the visitors who went in front before Carniny equalised when the Dungannon keeper failed to hold onto a Lynn free kick and Graffin was there to poke the ball in. Carniny doubled their score from another Lynn free kick that was beautifully headed on by Anderson to make it 2-1 and furthered their lead when Lynn turned from provider to scorer himself to make it 3-1 just before half time.

In the second half, Carniny were then punished for their lack of effort when Dungannon did score to make it 3-2.

It wasn’t long before Currie provided a chance for Lynn who made no mistake in slipping it past the keeper to make it 4-2. Currie almost scored himself when he hit the post and Lynn was there on hand to score the rebound.

Farquhar added to his goals for the season when from a Lynn free kick, Anderson flicked it on and Farquhar was there to place it into the net. Lynn then got his fourth when Currie again provided him with an easy finish after a great fast flowing passing move by Carniny to make it 7-2.

Carniny Youth 1, Dungannon Youth 2: Carniny found themselves a goal down half way through the first half from a Dungannon free kick just outside the box.

Carniny pressed their opponents from the restart and the ball fell to to Seaan Elliott who danced past three challenges to slot the ball in the corner of the Dungannon net. In the dying minutes Dungannon got a shot which deflected off a Carniny player and rolled into the net. From the restart Carniny went straight up the other end and a clear chance to get a point but Bailie Young hit the post with his shot.
