Carniny U-12s in seventh heaven as winning streak continues

Carniny Youth Under 12s kept up their good form on Saturday, making it seven wins in a row against Ballymoney Utd YA and staying top of their League in the National League.

The Under 14s kicked off the weekend last week with their Friday evening match against Sion Swifts up in Limavady where it finished honours even at 1-1.

The Under 16s wrapped up a nice win against Magherafelt Sky Blues, helped along to their 3-0 win with another brace from Matthew Shevlin, while the Under 15s enjoyed local derby success against Northend Utd Youth, winning by a single goal.

There was no joy up in the North West for the U9s and two under 10 teams who lost to their respective opponents.

UNDER-9

Carniny Amateurs 1, Coleraine Olympic 3: Carniny struggled to get into the game in the first half and despite the best efforts of McQuillan and McMullan in defence were 3 nil down at half time.

A change at half time saw Graham and McKee come on and Carniny started to play some nice passes and created a few chances early forcing the Coleraine keeper to make the saves. A free kick by Ciaran McQuillan went close but again the keeper came to Coleraine’s aid.

A nice pass by Graham found Lewis McKee who calmly slotted the ball home to pull a goal back for the Amateurs. Further chances fell to McGreevy and Graham but they were thwarted by some strong defending. A positive second half performance, that the wee Amateurs can build on.

UNDER-10

Carniny Amateurs 1, Maiden City 2: Carniny went close early on when Adam Millar’s shot hit the bar Maiden city came close on a couple of occasions but Ryan McGrath was up to the task but the Carniny defence were caught napping and Maiden city scored on the 8th minute.

Carniny went on the hunt for an equaliser and Balmer went close on the 14th minute, this was turning in to a dour battle but Carniny were starting to play some great football and O’Boyle, Balmer and Millar were chasing everything but Maiden city held on to half -time.

In the second half Carniny through everything at Maiden city but Carniny got caught on the break, 2 nil to Maiden city, this didn’t deter the Carniny lads and they showed their netting, they did get one back when some great work from Porter and McClure resulted in the ball being passed to Joshua Balmer and he fired a great shot into the bottom corner.

Maiden city were very dangerous on the Break but Ryan McGrath in goals produced several great saves.

Then Carniny forced a corner and Porter fired an inswinger against the cross bar and the ball broke to him again and his shot went inches wide.

Carniny pushed hard for an equaliser and Timothy McClure nearly got it but Maiden city’s keeper saved and to their credit they held on for a 2-1 win but the Carniny lads showed their best football this season.

Carniny Amateurs 5, Berties Little Ants 10: This game started off with Carniny playing the league leaders, and a side who have won all seven games.

The match started with Bertie’s taking the game to the wee reds, and before five minutes were on the clock Carniny were two nil down before Diego Fletcher got a goal back on the tenth minute.

Carniny kept building the play up from the back with Nathanael Hanna in nets rolling the ball out to Kelly and Foster in defence. But before long Carniny found themselves 5-1 down.

However the wee Reds kept battling and before half time Daniel Herron and Diego Fletcher both scored from some good built up play from the mid-field. Bertie’s hit Carniny with another couple of goals before half time.

The second half started well for Carniny with some good passing and built up play between Condron, McKendry, and Hanna. Carniny were playing well however they were just out played by a better team who were well drilled. Carniny went a further two goals down.

However the good play paid off on the 30th minute when Ryan Clarke fired home, and David Hanna added another on the 37th minute.

Berties just kept pushing and Nathanael Hanna in nets pulled off some great saves during the final few minutes of the game.

Carniny Youth 2, Ballymoney Utd YA 0: Carniny kept their great run going with their seventh win on the trot to put them 2 points clear at the top in the Premier section of the National League.

Ballymoney was always going to be your typical derby game with neither team giving away much.

Carniny had more possession in the first half but failed to convert their chances. Mearns hit the post quickly followed by Moore hitting the post.

The Ballymoney defence was having a good game throwing their bodies on the line with last ditch tackles and headers which was frustrating the Carniny attack.

The Carniny pressure finally told just before half time when Aidan Graffin finished well at the near post from a Lee Lynn corner. The first half finished 1-0.

The second half was a bit more open and Carniny started to put more passing moves together.

The game was settled with 10 minutes to go when Kyle Robinson finished with a great header from a Lee Lynn corner to make it 2-0.

This wasn’t Carniny’s greatest ever performance but they dug deep against a very determined Ballymoney side to get the 3 points and keep their run going.

UNDER-14

Carniny Youth 1, Sion Swifts 1: Carniny made the journey to Limavady on Friday night to play Sion Swifts on Roe Valley 3G.

This was a massive pitch and was going to test the boys’ fitness to the full.

Sion moved the ball confidently and deservedly took the lead on 25 mins as Carniny struggled to get a firm foothold in the game.

The second half was evenly matched but Carniny were simply not at their best and it took Ryan McGarry to pull Carniny level with a perfect free kick from 20 yards.

UNDER-15

Result: Carniny Youth 1, Northend Utd Youth 0.

UNDER-16

Carniny Youth 3, Magherafelt Sky Blues 0: The match started with both teams struggling to get on top with too many passes going astray.

Carniny opened the scoring when a long ball from Johnston out of defence deceived the Magherafelt defence and Matthew Shevlin ran through to score.

Carniny made four changes at half time and shortly into the second half they increased their lead when Joe McCann scored from close range after a free kick into the Magherafelt goal mouth was not cleared.

Carniny began to dominate the midfield with Killough, Jaworski and Graham working and tackling hard and Carniny wrapped up the 3 points when Shevlin scored again after good football from Balmer, Mairs and Flynn put him through.
