Carniny U-13s mark first victory with goal bonanza

Carniny Youth Under 13s claimed their first win of the season in emphatic style on Saturday, scoring seven against Sion Swifts, with six different players on the score sheet.

The Under 12s had a comfortable 6-1 win against Irish League Academy side, Cliftonville, before they move into the U12 Premier Section of the National League.

The Under 15s had to wait until Sunday for their win when they put five past Warrenpoint at the Dub.

The Under 9 Youths won an exciting game against Roe Valley whilst their Amateurs counterparts lost to a strong Coleraine Academy side. Both Under 10 teams lost out to Oak Athletic and Limavady up at Ballysally and the Under 11s could only manage a draw against Ballymoney. The Under 16s gave unbeaten league leaders, Glentoran a run for their money losing out by a single goal.

UNDER-9

Carniny 4, Roe Valley 3: The match started well when Sam Magee took a throw in to Leon Graham who scored from the edge of the box.

Carniny’s second came from Moody’s long ball which Graham chased to slide the ball in with his right to make it 2-0 before Roe Valley scored with a long-range shot before half-time.

The scores were level early in the second half when a corner was turned into his own net by a Carniny defender and from another mix-up, Roe Valley went 3-2 up.

The boys didn’t give up and Neill went on a run down the wing to swing in a cross for a Moody shot to go under the keeper and over the line to make it 3-3.

Both teams pressed hard for the winner and Neill ran to the by line to sweep a cross in to Greer who had followed up and he scored with the last kick of the game to finish 4-3.

Carniny Amateurs 0, Coleraine Academy 6: The Carniny boys battled hard for the entire 40 mins but a strong Coleraine side came out on top.

UNDER-10

Carniny 4, Oak Athletic 6: Carniny conceded five goals inside as many minutes to trail 5-0 at the break.

Carniny didn’t drop their heads and Kiefer Porter’s fantastic in-swinging corner found the net to pull a goal back, two minutes later Joshua Balmer broke clear and scored again the same player made it 5 -3 two minutes later.

Carniny battled hard but Oaks caught them on the break and made the score 6-3 but the Carniny lads never give up and when Harley Farrenden kicked a long ball out of his hands it somehow eluded the Oaks defence and ended up in the net to make the score 6-4. MOM - McClure.

Carniny Youth 1, Limavady Youth 2: The Under 10 Youths lost their unbeaten tag last weekend in a tight match against Limavady. The Carniny boys squandered a few chances, finding the Limavady keeper in top form. Diego Fletcher scored the only goal of the game for Carniny.

UNDER-11

Carniny 1, Ballymoney Athletic 1: A day of frustration for the U11’s as they struggled to find the winning goal in a match they were in complete control of.

Early in the second half however, Ballymoney took a shock lead from a corner, and the ball ricocheted in off the Ballymoney player’s shin and crept inside in post.

The equaliser came when Taylor Adger, fired in a delightful free kick which flicked off the defender’s head and into the net.

Carniny 6, Cliftonville 1: Carniny made it five wins in a row with a win over the Belfast side.

Early pressure told when after good work from Graffin, it was Nicholas Moore who poked the ball in at the back post. Against the run of play Cliftonville scored just before the half when Daniel McNicholl failed to hold onto a cross come shot and the striker smashed it into the net.

Half-time sub Lewis Mearns made an almost immediate impact when he burst between the two Cliftonville defenders and finished well into the bottom corner to make it 2-1.

Aidan Graffin then got a reward for his hard work when he twisted and turned on the edge of the box and finished with a superb left foot shot to make it 3-1.

A Carniny game wouldn’t have been complete without a goal from a Lee Lynn free kick. This time the keeper couldn’t hold on to it, and it slipped into the net to make it 4-1.

Cliftonville were unlucky to put the ball into their own net from a Lewis Mearns cross to make it 5-1 and just before the final whistle Mearns rounded off a great performance with a fine finish after a goal mouth scramble.

Carniny 7, Sion Swifts 1: The opening goal came from a corner from O’Boyle and Joshua Logan rose to power his header home.

Carniny doubled their lead with a thunderous strike from 25 yards from Matthew Kirk. Sion pulled one back from a corner kick when a striker headed home.

Carniny soon regained their two goal cushion with a neat ball in from Dane Archer to Joshua Courtney who took the ball on his chest and fired home.

Courtney got his second of the game with a neat finish. Sion began to tire and Carniny took full advantage of this with two goals in quick succession from Kieran O’Boyle and Rhys Ervine. With the game in the final stages Adam Gordon scored with a fine solo effort.

Carniny 5, Warrenpoint 1: Against the run of play, Point took the lead from a penalty.

Carniny needed to get back into the game quickly and did so when Philip Maybin’s 25 yard rocket flew into the top corner.

Carniny started the second half on the offensive and after five minutes took the lead when Kavan Keenan did extremely well to block a clearance from a Point defender, the ball deflected kindly to Callum McGall who rifled the ball into the corner of the net from just inside the box.

The Reds’ cause was helped when Point had a man sent off at the midpoint of the half and sub Conor Doherty headed home a pinpoint Maybin cross then rolled the ball along for Christian Ferris to score after a goalmouth scramble. Callum McGall poked home his second late on.

Carniny 1, Glentoran 2: Glentoran took the lead when a shot from the left squeezed under the diving Marquess and into the Carniny net. Carniny however hit back soon after this when Matthew Shevlin was fouled on the edge of the area and scored from the resulting free kick to level the scores at half time.

The “Glens” went back in front in the second half and although Carniny threw everything forward in the last 10 minutes, they were unable to get an equaliser.
