They looked like losing to their Ballymena neighbours but fought back from two down to equalise with a Jordan Hassan volley right at the death.

The Under 13s are showing improving form with two wins in a row when they beat Warrenpoint on the road.

Up in the North West both U10s lost out to their opponents whilst the two Under 9 teams played Roe Valley with the Amateurs winning their game and the Youths losing theirs.

Unfortunately the U12s lost their eight game unbeaten run when they lost out to Dungannon Youth, but still stay top of their league. The Under 16s also lost out to BUFC U16s in a local derby match.

UNDER-9

Carniny Youth 1, Roe Valley 3: Carniny fell behind when Roe Valley scored from a short corner. They shot and despite Sam Magee saving well it rebounded to a Roe player to score.

Carniny applied pressure but Roe Valley then countered and before Conlin Neill or Jack Kennedy could challenge they fired a shot from distance and scored a wonder goal to make it 2-0. Carniny were shaken and from another attack a Roe player battled past 3 players to square to the striker to tap in for 3-0 at half time.

Cameron Moody came onto the wing in a 2nd half reshuffle and Carniny started brightly with Kennedy hitting a post.

Moody then created a chance for Kennedy to turn sharply and fire into the corner to get a goal back but despite creating a number of openings, they couldn’t convert them.

Carniny: Magee, Kennedy, Neill, Greer (capt), Graham, Scott, Courtney, Moody

Carniny Youth 4, Roe Valley Colts 2: Carniny started the game well and a great through pass from Kenzie McMullan playing on the right found Archie McGreevey up front who slotted the ball past the keeper to put Carniny in front early in the game.

Lewis McKee then collected the ball in the Roe Valley half and his run took him past 2 defenders and saw him rewarded with the second goal of the game.

Carniny continued to press and were awarded a free kick on the edge of the box after the Roe Valley keeper handled the ball outside the area. Up stepped defender Ciaran McQuillan who calmly slotted the ball into the bottom corner of the net. Roe Valley came back at Carniny and scored just before half time to make it 3-1.

In the second half Roe Valley started the brighter side and broke through the Carniny defence to score again.

Chances fell to both Adam Douglas and Ciaran McQuillan but their shots found the bottom of the post on both occasions. Carniny now firmly back in control continued to press and a nice passing move between Archie McGreevey and Lewis McKee saw McKee calmly slot the ball home for his second of the game.

Carniny Youth 1, Dungannon Utd Youth 3: Carniny came back down to earth after their winning run of eight straight games.

It was a good tight game until Lee Lynn broke the deadlock with a thunderbolt from the corner of the box into the roof of the net to make it 1-0 Carniny.

It looked like this was the way the first half was going to end until some slack defending allowed the Dungannon striker to hit one from range giving McNicholl in goals no chance.

In the second half, against the run of play Dungannon scored on the break with the Carniny defender out of position it was laid across the goal mouth for a simple tap in.

Carniny pushed forward and were unlucky not to equalise when Kyle Anderson hit the crossbar from a header. Carniny when chasing the game were then hit with another sucker punch when Dungannon scored from a free kick outside the box to make it 3-1.

Carniny: McNicholl, Simpson, Farquhar, Lamont, White, Lynn, Hunter, Mearns, Moore, Anderson, Robinson, Hamilton, Graffin and Young.

UNDER-13

Carniny Youth 2, Warrenpoint 1: The game was very even with Carniny just shading possession as they searched for the opening goal. This nearly came from a deep corner Ryan Fleming headed back in towards goal the ball was cleared and Isaiah Close followed up with a good strike to bring off a good save.

The second half started as the first ended with both teams really turning up the tempo in search for the opening goal.

Warrenpoint were rewarded with some good work the opening goal with a strike which gave Jake Parker no chance.

Carniny equalised when a poor clearance fell to Joshua Logan who neatly side stepped his marker to hit a high shot into net. The game now was in full flight and Kieran O’Boyle who was running the midfield for Carniny was feeding balls through for Courtney and Archer to test the keeper. With the game approaching the end Warrenpoint threw everything at Carniny but the defence of Campbell, Clyde, Fleming and Winter stood firm and calm to keep attacks at bay.

The resulting winner came for Carniny after all their resulting pressure Kieran O’Boyle slipped the ball through to Joshua Courtney who made no mistake from 6 yards to take all 3 points.

Carniny: Parker, Clyde, Campbell, Winter, Fleming, Close, Stewart, O’Boyle, Gordon, Courtney, Archer, Logan.

Carniny Youth 2, Ballymena United 2: This was a match which had just about everything and was played in a good spirit with bad tackles, few and far between.

Rhys O’Mullan had a 25 yard effort which went just wide then Kavan Keenan curled a shot just past the post, but by this time Ballymena had got a foothold in the game forcing two or three half chances which went astray.

On the stroke of half time the sky blues produced the moment of the half when a well directed snapshot from the edge of the box found the roof of the net.

Carniny came out fighting in the second half and worked two openings inside the box but Philip Maybin followed by Kavan Keenan, just failed to provide the finish.

As the half progressed the Reds continued in the ascendancy but with 12 minutes to go were hit with a sucker punch when a poor clearance fell to the feet of a sky blue midfielder who smashed home their second excellent goal.

Carniny looked dead and buried at this stage but refused to give up and within a minute Philip Maybin was presented with a tap in after a mix up in the sky blues defence.

Jordan Hassan played a lovely pass to Rhys O’Mullan whose left foot strike was brilliantly pushed round the post by the keeper, who also saved well from Philip Maybin at his near post.

It looked like this age group’s proud record of never having lost to their neighbours was about to end but deep into injury time Simon Evans played a delightful pass to Jordan Hassan inside the box, the keeper blocked his first effort but on the rebound hero Hassan guided home a left foot volley to give Carniny a well deserved share of the points.

UNDER-16

Carniny Youth 1, Ballymena United 4: Carniny began the match on the front foot and should have scored inside the opening 5 minutes but Joseph McCann wasted a great chance and soon after this the same played had another great chance but did not trouble the Ballymena goalkeeper.

Ballymena were always dangerous coming forward and their front two kept the Carniny defence of Macartney, Balmer, Rowe and Johnston very busy.

Carniny created another good chance but Krystan Jaworski shot straight at the Ballymena goalkeeper from the edge of the 6 yard box and Ballymena opened the scoring soon after when a back pass was mishit by Marquess in Carniny’s goal and the Ballymena player coolly lobbed the ball over the goalkeeper into the unguarded net.

The second half saw Ballymena dominate much of the play with Carniny finding it difficult to trouble the Ballymena defence.

Killough and Platt were working very hard for Carniny and Balmer was finding a lot of space on the left but too often his final ball went out of play.

Carniny got back into the match when Krystan Jaworski was brought down inside the penalty area and Tyrone Balmer scored from the resulting penalty.

The next 10 mins saw Carniny play some of their best football but a misunderstanding between the Carniny goalkeeper and defender resulted in the Ballymena striker getting between them and lobbing the ball into the net, and soon after this a free kick from 20 yards by the Ballymena striker found its way into the bottom corner of the Carniny net and Ballymena scored a fourth near the end.

Carniny: Marquess, Macartney, Balmer, Rowe, Johnston, Killough, Platt, Price, Jaworski, McCann, Mairs, Moore, Wojtowicz, Flynn, McWilliams, Graham.
