Carniny Under-13s record another win as they prepare for Portugal trip

There were only two teams in action in the National League with the U13s and 15s both having scheduled fixtures.

Jason Hunter’s Under 13s warmed up for their forthcoming tournament in Portugal with their fourth win in five games with a single goal win over Dungannon Utd Youth in the National League.

The Under 13s will be hoping to keep up the good form and cement their position in the Premier Division of the National League for next season.

The Under 15s lost out to a single goal in a 2-1 loss to Lurgan Town.

Davy Leetch’s boys were handed a match with Linfield in the draw last week for their forthcoming NIBFA Cup semi final. The game has been provisionally arranged for Sat 11th April.

U-13S OFF TO PORTUGAL

Carniny Under 13s head off to Portugal this Sunday for a well deserved Easter Break.

In previous years Jason Hunter’s Carniny team have rubbed shoulders with the likes of Rangers, Benfica and Paris St Germain.

These trips to Scotland, Portugal, France and also Holland have provided the boys with a wealth of experience and memories they will never forget.

On the Sunday the boys arrive in Faro and get their coach to their 4 star Hotel in Albufiera where they will have indoor and outdoor swimming pools, mini golf and pool tables to help them to relax.

On Monday business begins when they will have three matches to play.

Their opposition will be in the form of Portuguese sides Guia FC, Immortal DC and Quarteirense CD-R.

On Tuesday the opposition is Stakeford FC from Sunderland and Benfica Academy.

Wednesday is their last game against First Division Portuguese side Guia FC.

After the final match it’s the prize distribution and a BBQ to look forward to for all the boys, coaches and parents.

On Thursday it’s a relaxing day at the water park as a reward for all their efforts. Unfortunately all good things come to an end and its home on Friday.

GOLF DAY

The club will be holding a Golf Day on Friday 17th April.

The event will be held at Galgorm Castle Golf Club with dinner afterwards in the Eagle Restaurant.

NIGHT AT THE RACES

Carniny Amateur & Youth FC held a fundraising ‘Night at the Races’ at Michelin Athletic Club at the weekend raising a considerable sum for club funds.

The number of horses sold was a credit to the club members who sold them and all at Carniny wish to thank those who purchased them and also the following sponsors who covered the cost of each race and provided a prize for the respective race winner,

This is the first of two spring fund raising events with a golfing day the next up for the clubs team of fundraisers.

FOYLE CUP

Carniny Amateur & Youth FC under 17s will, from Monday 20th July to 24th July, inclusive be taking part in the prestigious Foyle Cup youth tournament up in the North West.

The competition is out of season and the club will be running trials at the end of this season for anyone who thinks they may be up to the standard of playing in the tournament. Prospective players they will be looking for are those born in 1998/1999 and anyone interested should contact Ian on 07721596775 or Billy on 07850669666 sooner rather than later.

The squad will be resident in the North West during the tournament in a well known local hotel and will take part in other activities during the week. This same team played in last year’s tournament and if this year’s tournament is as good as last years then demand will be high for places.

Carniny have always been great supporters of the Foyle Cup and the 17s will be joined by the 11s and 13s at this year’s competition.

UNDER-13

Carniny Youth 1, Dungannon United Youth 0: Carniny continued their good form in the National League Premier Division with their fourth win in five games.

The strong wind was with Carniny in the first half and Dungannon found it difficult to gain possession and get the ball out of their own half.

Carniny still take couldn’t take advantage of the wind despite good efforts from Lynn, Anderson and Graffin. Hamilton was having a great game in midfield. White came on up front holding the ball up well and linking with the midfield.

The defence of Young, Scullion, Simpson and Robinson were solid and protected Holland, new keeper for the day.

The first half finished 0-0.

In the second half it was Carniny’s turn to have their backs to the wall.

Carniny’s defence was continually under pressure with Holland having to make some terrific saves.

Carniny did break through the Dungannon ranks with runs from Magee and Hunter on the wings.

It was Graffin who broke the deadlock when the game looked sure to end in a draw. Lynn was put through one on one with the keeper forcing him to make a great save and Aidan Graffin was on hand to stroke it into the net to make it 1-0.

Hamilton could have finished the game after a goal mouth scramble but again Carniny were denied by the Dungannon keeper. The last five minutes Carniny were again put under pressure but Simpson and Young at centre back were fantastic.

Holland pulled off the save of the day with only a couple of minutes left on the clock.

Carniny now look forward to a well deserved Easter break when they head to Portugal to get some sun and enjoy the hospitality of Benfica, Stakeford Jnrs from Sunderland and some other first Division Portuguese sides.
