Carniny Youth FC set for new Football Development Centre session

The sessions are open to all children, boys and girls born in 2011, 2010, 2009 and 2008. The club welcomes those who have previously attended as well as new players.

Players have the option of attending both the Saturday Morning sessions, which will be held at St Louis Grammar School and Monday evening sessions which is a Coerver Coaching Training night hosted by Austin Speight of Coerver Coaching Ulster at Cambridge House School or just attending a Monday or Saturday session. The pick of the wins this weekend was the Under 15s second 4-0 away win a row in the NIBFA Subway National League with a four goal salvo from Ryan Lorimer helping to seal the win against Oxford Utd.

The Under 11s were also in fine form progressing in the NIBFA Plate competition with a 6-3 win over Moira FC, with five different players on the score sheet.

The Under 10s were back in action up in the North West Youth League at Coleraine with a 5-3 win over Magherafelt Sky Blues whilst the U13s had to settle for a draw with Ballinamallard in the National League.

Both the U8 teams and U9 teams enjoyed playing once again in the IFA SSGs on Friday night and Saturday morning at the Showgrounds with some promising football displayed by all the sides.

Despite playing well in their match in the Lisburn Youth League against Moira the U12s lost out by the odd goal in five at the final whistle.

GIRLS ONLY COACHING

The club will be delivering FREE girls coaching taster sessions starting this Wednesday, 17th February at Ballymena Showgrounds 3G. The sessions are open to all girls and anyone interested should contact Lee Barry on 07920531789 or email – [email protected] . The sessions are scheduled for 7-8pm.

UNDER-9

The second week of the IFA Under 9s, Small sides games saw a significant improvement from both Carniny teams. Both teams played five matches each and with only one defeat against other clubs it was a really good day performance. Some excellent defending and great movement as well with five goals scored by each team in their first match.

As it was last week the match to be played was the derby game and it was played between the two Carniny Teams, this was a really good evenly matched game but special mention must go to Charley Gregg who scored what would be a contender for goal of the season in any league. With virtually the last kick of the game he unleashed a screamer of a volley into the net.

UNDER-10

Carniny Youth 5, Magherafelt Sky Blues 3: Magherafelt were first to score on 5 mins but Carniny replied five mins later through Tom Wylie. Magherafelt restored their lead two mins later, but Carniny fought back to level the score and thought they had taken the lead after Rhys Clarke scored but it was disallowed.

Carniny came out in the second half with some good interplay between the team and were rewarded with two goals from Sam Bell and another from Joel Douglas to see them take a 5-2 lead. With three mins to go the Sky Blues pulled a goal back.

UNDER-11

Carniny Youth 6, Moira FC 3: After trailing 2-0 at the break, Carniny started the second half at a high pace and were awarded a free kick about 35 yards out. Up stepped McMullan to fire the ball in.

Another McMullan free-kick was floated to the back post where McKee and Scott battled between themselves for Scott to eventually score. Moody, looking back to his best swung a corner straight in to go 3-2 up. Greer then followed up to finish a move he had started himself.

Moody then picked up the ball and squared to Greer to tap in his second. Moira then caught Carniny on the counter and a great pass cut the defence open. The striker was left unchallenged to put the ball past Tweed. A quick throw from Scott to Greer, gave him the opportunity to cross into the box. There was McKee to score on the second attempt for the game to end 6-3.

UNDER-14

Carniny Youth 3, Ballinamallard United Youth 3: Carniny started poorly and trailed 2-0 at the break.

Carniny’s reply came from a great 25 yard effort from Jake White to make it 2-1. Debut boy Mooney was then rewarded for his hard work when he chipped the advancing keeper to make it 2-2.

It was Hamilton that got Carniny’s third when from a Devlin corner the keeper failed to hold onto the ball and Hamilton was there to poke it in to make it 3-2.

Ballinamallard then were helped with their third with some more poor defending from a set piece to make it 3-3.

UNDER-15

Carniny Youth 4, Oxford United 0: Carniny went ahead on 15 minutes when Ryan Lorimer raced onto a Jordan Campbell pass and burst past the Oxford keeper to tuck home.

Five minutes later it was two nil after the Oxford keeper saved a Brady header, but the ball spilled to Lorimer who made no mistake. O’Boyle and Patchett were causing Oxford all sorts of problems and after good interplay the ball came through to Lorimer to complete his hat-trick.

Sixteen minutes into the second half it was all over as a contest with Lorimer racing away from halfway to fire low past the keeper and complete a excellent day for himself.

Ben Fry the Carniny keeper had only one save to make the whole of the game, but what a save it was, diving full stretch to touch the ball round the post as it was destined for the top corner.
