Carniny Youth sides ‘draw’ comfort from weekend results

Up in the North West the U10 Amateurs had a pleasing win over Maiden City whilst their Youth counterparts lost out to Dungiven Celtic.

The 11s Youth team were back in action in Lisburn battling out a 1-1 draw with Crumlin as were the U12s in Belfast with the same scoreline against Cliftonville.

The 15s lost out to Crusaders in the NIBFA League, in a game they certainly deserved to take something from. The 14s bowed out of the NIBFA Cup losing to BUFC YA 2-3 in the end, running out of time to take an equaliser.

The U17s squandered a two goal first half lead in their match against Loughgall on Friday night losing out 2-3 in the end to three second half goals.

UNDER-10

Carniny Amateurs 3, Maiden City 1: Facing relatively unknown opposition, Carniny went in front in the second half when Lewis McKee got the ball down the right wing and his cross found Leon Graham who finished expertly in the corner.

Although Maiden City equalised, a tactical change saw McMullan go up front in place of the tireless Graham, and his running saw a mix up between the City keeper & defender who could only clear against McMullan and it deflected in for 2-1.

With minutes remaining Maiden City won a corner which was cleared to McMullan who skinned his marker and raced up the wing.

His cross was inch perfect for Francey who had ran the full length of the pitch in support to volley home.

Carniny Youth 1, Crumlin Colts 1: Carniny were hit with a sucker punch as Crumlin took the lead but the Ballymena boys were level by the interval after a Shea Ruddy corner was headed home by Joshua Balmer.

Carniny Youth 1, Cliftonville 1: Against much-fancied opponents, Carniny broke the deadlock shortly before half time when Taylor Adger raced past the Cliftonville defence and guided the ball past the oncoming keeper.

In the second period, the visitors drew level when a free kick high into the box was nodded home by the striker.

UNDER-14

Carniny Youth 2, Ballymena United YA 3: Carniny .opened the scoring when McKitterick received the ball drove into the box and rounded the keeper and calmly tucked the ball away.

Ballymena struck back within a couple of minutes from a free kick just before the break

The SKy Blues wentin front after half-time and as Carniny chased an equaliser, they were caught with a tidy finish.

McKitterick’s late penalty set up a grandstand finish but Carniny ran out of time.

Carniny Youth 1, Crusaders 3: Carniny, missing a number of players through injury, made the perfect start as Elliott’s through ball allowed Bailey Young to run through and lob the advancing keeper.

Crusaders equalised before half-time but Carniny looked to have done enough to secure a draw before conceding two goals in the last seven minutes.

UNDER-17

Carniny Youth 2, Loughgall 3: Carniny took the lead when midfielder Thomas Johnston hit a shot from outside the penalty area into the corner of the Loughgall net.

The Ballymena boys doubled their advantage when good work by Rhys O’Mullan left his fellow midfielder James Price in the clear and he scored with a good finish but Loughgall stormed back to win.
