Elsewhere for the club, the Under 8s, 9s and 10s fielded teams up in Coleraine at the Eakin 5 aside tournament.

Meanwhile the 14s had a disappointing week with defeats to Glentoran and St Oliver Plunkets in the league and cup respectively whilst Linfield proved too strong for the 13s in their last league game of the season.

The Under 11s were ejoying the warmth and sunshine of Portugal last week playing local teams including a Benfica Academy side. Full reports next week on their return when they also have a Lisburn Youth League Cup Final to look forward to joining the Under 9s who also have a cup final up in the North West.

Both teams started very edgy and nervous with misplaced passes and scrappy football.

The dead lock was soon opened when Neeson powered down the line to cross into the box for Stewart to control and roll the ball between two defenders for Joshua Courtney to tap home at the back post.

Carniny looked to have doubled their lead when Campbell hit a long clearance which Conor Stewart took well and lobbed the Ards keeper only for the ball to be cleared off the line.

Ards thought they had equalised when Parker made a mistake and let in the Ards striker who could only hit the post after heavy pressure from Isiah Close.

Finally with 10 mins left the tie was killed off when O’Boyle fed the ball through to Conor Stewart who weaved through two challenges then side stepped the keeper to slot home.

With only mins remaining Carniny stroked the ball about calmly to see out the game with the final whistle blew to spark wild celebrations from Carniny and their travelling fans. Special mention goes to Mark Winter on his man of the match performance.
