Carniny Youth ‘Unite Against Hate’ at Foyle Cup

CARNINY Youth FC will be endorsing and supporting the Unite against Hate campaign throughout this week’s Foyle Cup.

The Ballymena club will be using their Unite kit and spreading the message, that Northern Ireland is welcoming and friendly and the actions of a few do not reflect the vast majority of those who live here.

The Unite against Hate is a multi-agency driven initiative which highlights all six forms of hate crime including homophobia, racism, sectarianism and transphobia as well as prejudices based around a person’s faith or disability and challenges everyone in Northern Ireland to unite to stop it.

Carniny Youth secretary Billy O’Flaherty said: “The whole squad are delighted to be able to to promote the campaign’s message and to encourage, empower and support people to express their opposition to hate crime. This is something that we feel strongly about.”

The Irish Football Association (IFA) and Gaelic Athletics Association (GAA), Belfast Giants as well as a host of Northern Ireland celebrities lent their support to the campaign, which was launched in September 2009.
