Cold snap halts all weekend Youth Academy games

The cold spell kicked in on Saturday morning and forced the cancellation of all Ballymena United Youth Academy games, both home and away.

The 16’s and 15’s both had planned to be in action at the Showgrounds but early on it was clear that even the 3g surface at the venue would be unplayable until later in the day.

A number of the lads returned to watch the youth team in action at lunchtime and cheered the u19’s onto victory in a great second half performance.

The under 17’s are in action at the Showgrounds this Friday evening while the u16’s face Limavady at the same venue on Saturday morning.

The 14’s NIBFA cup game was called off on Friday evening and will hopefully be rescheduled this week.

Ross McCausland and Sean McAllister, who regularly turn out for the u14’s and u13’s had some good news however, both named again in the National squad that will travel to Scotland for a friendly against Rangers at the end of the month.

The under 13’s had some news themselves during the week, well known local B licence coach Greg Turtle has joined the set up and will assist the current team in coaching and attracting the best young players at this age group to the Showgrounds. Greg has a wealth of experience in adult and youth football circles and his arrival has been warmly welcomed by all at the club.
