Confident displays from Ballymena youth sides

It proved to be a good weekend for the Ballymena United youth sides with some confident performances from the teams in action.

The 13’s were in action at Smithfield and drew 2-2 with Lurgan in a close game and were disappointed not to claim all three points.

The sky blues missed a number of chances to clinch the game. The under 16’s and under 17’s both recorded convincing wins over Limavady Youth.

The 11’s were in action in Lisburn on Saturday morning and again there were some impressive individual performances.

The 14’s are back in NIBFA action next Friday evening against Ridgeway, the 13’s face Cliftonville the same evening while the 17’s make it a Friday hat trick with their NIBFA tie against Newhill at the Showgrounds. The 16’s face Glentoran on Saturday.

UNDER-13

BUYA 2, Lurgan Town 2: United started off the second half of the league campaign against Lurgan at Smithfield.

The sky blues dominated the early exchanges and new front man Bailey Adams and Taylor Adger were linking up well. At the back Adam Steel was excellent snuffing out any attacking threats and the wing backs of Kyle Neill and Seanie Macintosh were impressing in their new roles.

United took the lead as a through ball was flicked around the corner brilliantly by Adams for Adger to run onto and hammer home.

They went further ahead with a well placed McCartney penalty after a foul in the box.

Changes were made by United and suddenly a rejeuvenated Lurgan came back at United to make it 1-2.

United missed further opportunities to move ahead and with five minutes to go the Armagh side got their equaliser.

Ballymena United 3, Limavady Youth 0: Two confident wins on the bounce for the under 16’s. Goals came from Callum Smyth, Andrew Smyth and Pearce McClarnon.

UNDER-17

Limavady Youth 0, Ballymena United 4: United went into lead when Thomas Campbell drove into box and fired past the goalkeeper.

Ballymena extended their lead when a nice move involving Adam McCelland, Bailey McNeill and Philip Maybin found Jack Walshe in space to score.

Another nice passage of play found Rhys O’Mullan in space at back post to score.

Zack Herbison extended Ballymena’s lead in the second half.
