Conor Doherty scored twice for the Ballymena side and was denied a hat-trick when he had a penalty saved.

The Under 9s made a winning start to their introduction to the North West and Coleraine District Youth League against a Portrush Youth side as did the U10s who also won their match against Coleraine Olympic, the two teams racking up 16 goals between them.

In the Lisburn league the U12 teams had mixed results with the Youth team winning against Lisburn Distillery and the FC team losing out to Ridgeway.

UNDER-9

Carniny Youth 7, Portrush Colts 0: Adam Wharry opened the scoring with a fine strike from range into the top corner. Carniny’s confidence grew, scoring twice more before the half time whistle through Wharry and Scullion. Carniny started the second half as they had left off the first, with further goals from Gregg, Fletcher, McDonald and Wharry.

Carniny Amateurs U9s were in action at the IFA SS games at the Showgrounds where they played four matches.

Carniny Amateurs; Jamie Allen, Daniel McKane, Matthew Turtle, Jack Campbell, Grace Campbell, Josh Kennedy, Kyal Rainey, Billy Wylie

UNDER-10

Carniny Youth 9, Coleraine Olympic 1: An outstanding performance from a strong Carniny side in this NWCDYL Cup match, thanks to goals from Bell (3), T Wylie (3), Adger, McPeake and an own goal - all of this after Carniny had fallen behind.

Carniny: McCorriston, Adger, Clarke, J.Wylie, Young, T.Wylie, McPeake, Bell.

UNDER-11

Carniny Youth 2, Tristar 4: It was no surprise when from a Kenzie McMullan free kick that crashed off the bar, Jack Kennedy reacted quickest to put the visitors ahead.

A moment of confusion when everyone waited for the referee’s whistle, which never came, gave Tristar the equaliser with the ball trickling over the line and into Adam Tweed’s goal.

A long range shot was well saved by Tweed but the Tristar striker reacted quickest to put them 2-1 up.

C McMullan burst from defence and passed up to Kennedy. His instant pass was into Cameron Moody’s path who bore down on goal and struck a fierce shot to equalise just before half time.

In the second half, a defensive mix up allowed Tristar to go ahead. Pushing more players forward in search of the equaliser a long ball was cleared and the striker did well to go past Murray and poke the ball home for the final goal.

Carniny: Tweed, Douglas, Murray, K McMullan, Greer, Moody, Kennedy, McKee, Scott, Magee, C McMullan

UNDER-12

Carniny Youth 2, Lisburn Distillery 1: Carniny’s good early good football paid off with an early goal when Young moved the ball to Kelly who slipped it into the path of Duddy to slot the ball nicely past the keeper.

Nathanael Hanna picked the ball up in nets and played an excellent ball straight down the middle to Young whose pace took him past the whites defensive and he finished the ball well.

A lack of concentration in the last 5 minutes that allowed the Whites to score a goal.

Carniny: Hanna, Dael, Hanna, Condron, Andrews, Kelly, Feeney, Duddy, Young, McMeekin, Tuff.

LIYL result: Carniny Youth 0, Ridgeway Rovers 5.

UNDER-13

Carniny Youth 2, Ards Youth 3: Carniny fell behind to the leagie leaders but replied on 17 minutes when Gregg found the roof of the net.

Ards were then awarded a penalty but keeper Telford pulled off a brilliant save, diving to his left.

Carniny didn’t make a good start to the second half and within a minute they were 2-1 down.

It was 2-2 when Knowles raced onto a through ball from Young to fire the ball into the top of the net, but luck was not on Carniny’s side when a shot bounced off the Carniny keeper and fell into the path of the Ards striker who scored the winner from close range.

UNDER-14

Carniny Youth 1, Ballinamallard Youth 2: After a long drive to Ballinamallard, it wasn’t long before Carniny were 1-0 up when Lynn turned his defender and finished low into the corner.

But it all went wrong for Carniny in the last 10 minutes as they conceded an equaliser against the run of play and then, with five minutes to go, the Ballymena men were dealt a killer blow when Ballinamallard were given a penalty which they scored to make it 2-1. Carniny; McNicholl, Holland, Simpson, Robinson, Young, White, Holba, Magee, Groocock, Butler, Lynn, Hunter, Hamilton.

UNDER-15

Carniny Youth 1, Dungannon United Youth 4: Carniny conceded three goals inside the opening 20 minutes but were handed a lifeline when Campbell’s clearance from inside his own half was misjudged by the Dungannon keeper. However, a fourth Dungannon goal put the game beyond Carniny.

NIFL YOUTH LEAGUE

Carniny Youth 2, Moyola Park Youth 1: Carniny took the lead mid way through the first half after a free kick from 20 yards was parried out by the Moyola keeper with Doherty reacting the quickest to score from a tight angle.

Carniny made it 2-0 when sub James Price made a good run down the right and crossed into the penalty area where Doherty hammered in his and Carniny’s second.

Carniny should have wrapped the game up when they were awarded a penalty after a foul on Price but Doherty’s penalty kick was well saved by the Moyola goalkeeper.

Moyola continued to press forward and pulled a goal back but could not force a second to get a point and Carniny held on for a valuable three points.

Carniny: Shannon, Calderwood, Waring, McComb, McCann, Johnston, Lemon, Agnew, Armstrong, Doherty, McKee, Price, McVeigh, Greer
