Day to forget for local sides in Provincial League

SATURDAY proved to be a day to forget for local sides in the Ballymena and Provincial Intermediate League.

Raceview were beaten 3-1 by Michelin Athletic Club Championship-chasing Magherafelt Sky Blues, while Carniny Amateurs were also beaten by another of the title contenders, Brantwood.

Mathces involving locally-based sides this Saturday, March 9, are:

Intermediate League: Ballynure Old Boys v Clough Rangers Athletic.

Junior Division Two: Carniny Amateurs II v Carnmoney FC; Chimney Corner Res v Wakehurst Strollers.

Canada Trophy, round three: Antrim Rovers v FC Ballynure Res.

INTERMEDIATE LEAGUE

Magherafelt Sky Blues 3, Raceview 1: Raceview got off to a great start after Matthew Redmond scored with a blistering free kick in the fifth minute.

The second half again saw chances for both teams but again no goals until Oran Sexton scored for the Sky Blues on the 75th minute.

Both teams than went after a second goal after this with Sexton scoring his second goal putting the Sky Blues in front on the 8th minute.

Raceview then threw everyone forward but failed to get the elusive equaliser then in stoppage time Ryan Campbell sealed the win for Sky Blues with their third goal.

Other results: Brantwood 2, Carniny Amateurs 0; FC Ballynure 1, Dunloy 3.

JUNIOR DIVISION ONE

Larne Olympic 1, Antrim Rovers 1: Antrim took the lead after Darren Brammeld scored on the 5th minute but the Olympic were soon back level after scoring on the 13th minute and there was no further scoring.

Other results: Ballyclare Comrades Reserves 5, 3rd Ballyclare Old Boys 0; Cookstown Olympic 4, Magherafelt Sky Blues Reserves 6; Tobermore United Reserves 1, Glebe Rangers Reserves 2; Killymoon Rangers Reserves 2, Ballymoney United Reserves 1.

JUNIOR DIVISION TWO

Ballynure Old Boys ‘B’ 11, Carniny Amateurs II 2: The young Carniny team were up against a more experienced Ballynure team in this game going in at half-time losing five nil with Ronnie Burns scoring three and Robert Houston two for Ballynure.

Craig Heggarty made it six nil but Carniny pulled a goal back through Larkin.

Ronnie Burns then scored his fourth and fifth goals in the game but Carniny got a second goal after O’Neil scored.

Three more goals followed scored by Paddy Gregory and Ronnie Burns two to bring his tally to seven in the game.

Carnmoney FC 6, Wakehurst Strollers 1: A hat-trick of goals scored by Rocky Thompson on the 12th, 15th and 22nd minutes saw Carnmoney race into a three goal lead then as half-time was close Billy Nelson made it four nil scoring on the 40th minute.

Rocky Thompson got his fourth goal in the game on the 50th minute this being followed by Timmy Cunningham converting a penalty for Wakehurst on the 75th minute.

Time was then running down when Billy Nelson scored his second goal in the game to complete the scoring.

Other results: Ballyclare North End 3, FC Larne 2; Castle Star 5, Red Star 4; Moyola Park Olympic 1, 1st Mossley YM 1.

JUNIOR DIVISION THREE

Results: Cookstown RBL 0, Rathcoole FC 2; AFC Carrick 8, Encore FC 1; FC Ballynure Reserves 1, 1st Carrickfergus Old Boys 3; 14 th Newtownabbey 1, Remo FC 6; Sport & Leisure Swifts Reserves 4, Carrickfergus YC 2.

RACEVIEW QUIZ

Raceview FC are holding a table quiz in the Thatch Inn on Wednesday, March 6, at 8pm. Admission is £3 per person with teams of up to six people allowed in a team.
