Ferguson believes loss at Dungannon was ‘harsh’

The Sky Blues looked on course for their first point of the season before conceding two late goals as they remain rooted to the foot of the Danske Bank Premiership table.

“If I sit down and look over that 93 minutes we didn’t deserve to lose that game - we definitely deserved to get something out of it,” said the United boss after the game.

“We had 13 attempts at goal and they had four but they scored two and we scored none so maybe it’s in the final third that we need to tighten up on.

“I thought up until the mistake for the first goal we looked pretty sound defensively, the lads competed well and we dealt withy anything Dungannon threw at us.

“Dwayne Nelson had very little to do but it’s really disappointing when you get a kick in the teeth like that.

“You concede a goal and then you have to go chasing the game and get caught with a sucker punch on the counter-attack.

“There are positives to take out of it but once again it’s a negative result.

“There were a couple of chances in the first half - David Cushley put one across and if Matthew Shevlin’s toe had been an inch longer, he would have been putting it into an empty net.

“Matthew Ferguson hit the post in the first half and Cush has had a couple of efforts but the turning point was when Allan Jenkins was clean through and tries to sidefoot it and place it and unfortunately it went just wide.

“Dungannon then went straight up the field and scored which is hard to take but we have to take positives out of a better performance.

“People will see we’ve been beaten 2-0 and people will think ‘oh no, another diabolical performance’ but those who saw it will see that wasn’t the case.

“But that’s the reality - it’s a harsh game but you’ve got to take your chances or you don’t win games,” added Ferguson.
