Former United player Brown wins £7k claim after injury

A FORMER Ballymena United footballer has been awarded a £7,500 payout for an injury he sustained while playing for the club more than three years ago.

Paul Brown sustained a fractured bone in his forearm after falling onto the stock car track at the Showgrounds while playing in a match for the Sky Blues against Linfield in September 2007.

Brown left the club in January 2008 but subsequently initiated legal proceedings against Ballymena United; Ballymena Borough Council, as the owners of the Showgrounds; and the Irish Football Association.

The long-running case was due to be heard in the County Court last month but an out-of-court settlement was reached and Brown was awarded £7,500 plus legal costs, to be divided equally between Ballymena United and the IFA. No award was made against Ballymena Borough Council.
