Foyle Cup round-up: United face Derry City in semi-final

BALLYMENA United under-19s are potentially just two steps away from Foyle Cup glory.

But Clifford Adams’ side face their sternest test to date in tonight’s (Thursday) semi-final when they take on pre-tournament favourites Derry City.

The game will take place at Ardmore playing fields (7pm).

United claimed their place in the semi-final in the most dramatic of circumstances.

Needing a draw in their final group game against Ballymoor to qualify for the last four on goal difference at their opponents’ expense, the Sky Blues were trailing 1-0 going into the final minute of the game when Jamie Davidson was brought down inside the penalty area.

Davidson dusted himself down and kept his nerve to equalise from the spot, sending the United fans into a frenzy.

In the under-15 section, Northend United take on Enniskillen Town United in the semi-final of the Shield competition.

Northend had started their campaign with a scoreless draw against Glentoran before losing 5-0 to Scottish Premier League club St Johnstone and then drawing 2-2 with Oxford United Stars, thanks to goals from Jamie Spiers and Lee Scroggie.

In the under-10 section, Carniny Youth take on Oxford Sunnyside in the quarter-final of the Plate at Leafair (2pm).
