Glenn Ferguson has played down speculation linking David Cushley with a move away from Ballymena United this summer.

Cushley is believed to be on the radar of a number of Danske Bank Premiership clubs – including Linfield where Warren Feeney remains an admirer.

The versatile 25-year-old midfielder has become a talisman for the Sky Blues in recent seasons, not least for his penchant for scoring wonder goals from distance.

His bullet strike against Cliftonville at Solitude last season earned Cushley the Goal of the Season award.

And Ballymena boss Ferguson is under no illusions how important a player he remains to the club.

“I have heard about the rumours and speculation, but that is all it is,” Ferguson said.

“I am not surprised that there has been interest in Cush. There is the same interest every time the transfer window opens.

“The fact is that Cush has one year left on his contract and he remains a big part of this club going forward.

“He is an integral part of this squad and he has the best left foot in the league. He can change games.

“We want to keep our big players at the Showgrounds and build around them. We have already added Alan Blayney and Mark Magennis, and we want to add a few more new faces.

“Cush has an important role to play at Ballymena and he won’t be going anywhere.”
