IRISH LEAGUE: Dungannon Swifts boss Rodney McAree hoping players build on win over Coleraine

Dungannon Swifts boss Rodney McAree hopes last Saturday's emphatic win against Coleraine can be the launch pad for further success.

The Swifts romped to a 4-0 win over the Bannsiders to earn their first points of the season.

It came after defeats to Glentoran and Ards, two results that threatened to puncture any early optimism at Stangmore Park.

“It was important we didn’t let those defeats fester, and to be fair the players didn’t let it get to them,” McAree said.

“I was encouraged by the performance against Glentoran, and we should have come away with much more against Ards.

“We missed an early penalty and then Ards punished us. Thankfully against Coleraine we got the early goal and that was a platform for us in that game.

“Now we have to build on that win.”

Dungannon are preparing for a daunting double-header in the Danske Bank Premiership, with successive away games against Cliftonville and Linfield.

“They are two massive games for us, against two sides who will be looking to win the title,” McAree added.

“But we will go into the games with confidence.”

One boost for McAree is the return of Paul McElroy and Cormac Burke – both played 45 minutes of a friendly match in midweek.

“They are nearing a return to first-team action, so that is a massive lift for us,” McAree added.
