Jordan toast of Northend U-12s after important double strike

Jordan Wilson was the toast of Davy Wylie’s U11s at the weekend when he weighed in with two of the goals in their 3-2 win over in-form Magherafelt Sky Blues.

Elsewhere in the North West and Coleraine League, the U9s had a good 2-1 derby win over neighbours Carniny Amateurs, playing against their neighbours with only six men for the entire match. The U10 Youth team turned in a good team performance against Coleraine Olympic before eventually losing the match. The U12s also lost to Coleraine Academy.

The U10 United side travelled all the way to Newry at the behest of the Irish Football Association to take part in one of their small sided games tournaments. The Ballymena Boys found themselves up against Camlough Rovers, Glenavon and Windmill Stars on the day and played out of their skins in three evenly contested games.

In the Lisburn League, Johnny Sayers U14s lost their match against Greenisland with the last kick of the game, while the U13s lost their Shield quarter final match against Shankill Juniors, the current League leaders.

There were no matches in the National League this week, with both the U15s and U17s earning a well earned Halloween break.

On Wednesday night, the Club had its first fundraising event of the year with a well attended Family Quiz night in Connolly’s Bar, Dunvale.

Finally on Friday night, the Club’s Football Development Centre continued at the Clough MUGA with over thirty boys and girls enjoying their first steps in football, under the direction of Northend’s Football Development Officer, John Devlin.

Northend 2, Carniny Amateurs 1: Due to sickness Northend were missing a few regular players, and played the entire game with six men.

Northend fell behind to Carniny but levelled the score before half time through Jay McKeown.

Northend got the winner when Jay McKeown took a corner and played into the packed penalty box where it rebounded off the Carniny keeper and into the net to give the Northend team a hard earned win.

Northend United U10s were on their travels this week when they accepted an invitation to take part in an Irish Football Association’s Mini-Soccer Tournament in Newry.

A very early start and dreadful weather conditions when leaving Ballymena really, highlighted the dedication this young group of players and their parents.

Northend 4, Camlough Rovers 2: Northend went behind to an early pile-driver from a Camlough midfielder before Owen Campbell worked hard to create a chance for Caolan Lennon to draw things level.

The wee blues leaked a second moments later but immediately drew things level when Jack Adams created enough space on the edge of the area to drill the ball into the roof of the net.

Good defensive work and support given to the midfield and forward players saw two further goals for Northend, Caolan Lennon and Jack Adams both thundering home chances from distance.

Northend 0, Glenavon 2: With little more than a two minute break between matches, Northend faced a Glenavon side that were playing their first fixture of the competition. Facing into the strong breeze the wee blues looked tired and conceded two very early goals.

Northend 0, Windmill Stars 2: The next game came along within five minutes and the boys were clearly feeling the effects of the earlier matches and they were beaten by two second half goals.

Coleraine Olympic 5, Northend 2: It was Northend who went in front when Conor McKillop blasted home from close range, but Coleraine draw level just before half-time.

In a ten minute spell Northend lost the plot when Coleraine second four goals in quick succession before they got back into the game with Jay McKeown scoring late for Northend.

Magherafelt Sky Blues 2, Northend 3: Northend took an early lead through Jordan Wilson from a well worked team move with one touch football.

However Magherafelt did equalise from a counter attack but it was Northend who deserved their second goal before the half. From a quick throw in H Wylie controlled the ball and passed into the box to Jordan Wilson scoring his second.

It was from one of Pierce Esler’s runs finding Pat Ferris in the middle who then played in Ciaran Campbell making it 3-1. Magherafelt pulled a second goal back but Northend held on.

Northend 0, Shankill Juniors 3: Shankill went into the lead at half-time by two goals to nil, one from a direct free-kick on the edge of the box, the other from a penalty.

In a dour second half, Shankill further increased their advantage with another from the penalty spot.

Greenisland 3, Northend 2: After 25 minutes of the first half, Aaron Campbell struck a thunderous shot at the keeper, which he could only parry and Brandon Millar was on hand to slot the ball past the keeper.

This was a lead they held until minutes before half time, when Greenisland scored a good goal. Half time score 1-1

Into the second half and Campbell gave Northend the lead again when he was on hand to smash the ball into the Greenisland net, from a Northend corner kick. Greenisland equalised again when from another corner kick they tucked the ball into the bottom corner of the Northend net.

The game looked like it was heading for a draw until Northend won a throw-in close to their penalty box.

They lost the ball and when the Greenisland player crossed the ball into Northend’s box, the Greenisland striker struck a good shot, which was originally saved by Josh Mark but the striker followed in and slipped the ball into the Northend net. MOM - Josh Mark
