Knockout blow for Waveney

WAVENEY Youth FC suffered a 6-1 defeat against Castleview Swifts in the Knockout Cup played at Ballyclare on Saturday.

Waveney were up against it from the start with Castleview applying lots of pressure and three quick goals before the break left Waveney with a lot to do in the second half.

They responded superbly with a great 20-minute spell where they had their opponents on the back foot and Kyle Jackson pulled a goal back with a cracking 25 yard drive which gave the keeper no chance.

Waveney’s tails were up but they just couldn’t find another breakthrough and it was Castleview who finished the game scoring three more goals to seal victory.

Special mention must go to Craig Gaston who had to go in as goalie at the last minute after regular keeper Kurtis Brown suffered a foot injury.

This Saturday, Waveney are at home to Castleview in the league. Kick off is 10.30am at the Showgrounds.
