Ladies record another victory in league

BALLYMENA ladies remain at the top of the PTWBA Senior League following a hard fought 80-69 victory over Limavady at the Old Ballymoney Road green.

There was nothing to separate the two teams on rink 2 where Grace Henry, Marie Houston, Iris Millar and Barbara Cameron were locked at 10-10 after 10 ends against E Hughes.

The remaining ends were also shared but unfortunately for the Ballymena ladies they could only score 4 singles while the visiting rink scored a total of 10 shots to run out victors by 20 shots to 14.

Jean Rainey, Kathleen Hoey, Pat Allen and Jennifer Dowds were initially involved in a tight game against A Forrest on rink 3 and after 6 ends the score was 5-5.

The remainder of the game however was dominated by the Ballymena ladies who restricted the visitors to only three more scoring ends and it was the home rink who went on to record a comprehensive 24-11 victory.

On rink 3 Megan Wilson, Gladys Power, Dorothy McKee and Donna McCloy were also involved in a close game against N Marshall.

Scores were tied at 4-4 after 5 ends, 8-8 after 9 ends and 15-15 after 15 ends, however in a disappointing finish it was the visitors who claimed victory when they outscored the Braid ladies by 5 shots to 1 to claim victory by 20 shots to 16.

There was a high scoring game on rink 4 where Linda McCullough, Peggy Pinkerton, Erin Smith and Sarah Jane Coleman took on the Limavady rink skipped by D Baird.

Yet again this was a game which could have gone either way as there was never more than a few shots in the game, but the penultimate end proved to be the undoing of the visitors as the Ballymena ladies picked up a massive count of 7 shots to ensure victory by 26 shots to 18.

This week Ballymena ladies are on their travels when they go to Coleraine next Wednesday

Elsie McAlonan, Manuel Shields and Sally Carson took on D Weeks on rink 5 and up until the 7th end they were still very much in the game with the scores level at 4-4.

Unfortunately for the Braid ladies they conceded 2 counts of 4 shots over the next few ends and this handed the initiative to the visitors who went on to record a comfortable 21-7 victory.

There was better news on rink 6 where Eileen Courtney, Jackie Hogg and Barbara Burnett were drawn against M Sheppard. Scores were level at 5-5 after 5 ends, 9-9 after 10 ends and 13-13 after 16 ends and this set up an exciting finish.

Each rink won one of the final ends, but it was the Ballymena ladies who claimed the victory when they scored 3 shots on the 17th end compared to the 2 shots which the visitors collected on the final end.

This week the ladies have a home match against Ballycastle.
