Local duo in NI under-18 squad

TWO Ballymena tenagers have been selected in this season’s Northern Ireland under-18 squad.

Striker Neil Lowry and midfielder Samuel McIlveen are in manager Bob Ramsey’s panel for the campaign, which begins with a friendly against Australia this Wednesday at Seaview (2pm).

Lowry, from Ballykeel was in the same panel last year, when he was a year young.

The Slemish College pupil has recently made the breakthrough into Ballymena United’s first team squad.

McIlveen, from Kells, captained the County Antrim Premier squad at last summer’s Milk Cup.

He is currently on the books of Glentoran and has been captain of the Oval side’s Colts team, while also making several appearances for Glentoran II.

The boys were selected following several weeks of trials.
