Ballymena United under 13s capped a memorable week on Saturday with progression to the National League Cup semi finals.

On Easter Monday a selection of the boys had triumphed in the prestigious Larne Sevens tournament, beating a top St Oliver Plunkett side to secure the silverware.

United were represented by an under 8 side, under 10’s and the under 13’s at Sandy Bay on Easter Monday.

This was a first outing for the under 8’s and an excellent introduction to competitive tournament football for the “wee sky blues”.

The 10’s lost out to Celtic Boys in a penalty shoot out in the quarter finals but again can be happy with their endeavours. The 13’s started off slowly but were able to secure early victories before a late loss to St Oliver Plunkett meant they finished second in their group. They were inspired in the semi finals however with their victory over the Newell Academy before facing Plunkett once more in the final were the sky blues triumphed 2-1.

BUYA U-12 5, Colin Valley 1: Ballymena took the lead when ace Marksman Joshua Balmer scored from an Adam Millar lay off.

The west Belfast side levelled early in the second half but Ballymena responded as Balmer finished superbly. Lewis Tennant scored the goal of the game following neat work from Ben Dallas and Balmer. The tireless Millar scored next after Scott Montgomery had 2 efforts saved by the keeper. Dallas completed the rout in the final minute.

BUYA U-13 5, Warrenpoint 3: Ballymena raced into a three goal lead thanks to Ross McCausland (2) and Bradley McCartney before warrenpoint pulled one back. Further United goals from Sean McAllister and Seanie McIntosh put the outcome beyond doubt, despite two late Point goals.
