Michael to earn his Spurs

MICHAEL O’Neill is looking forward to the biggest challenge of his managerial career.

The Ballymena man is currently the hottest managerial property around after leading Shamrock Rovers to the group stages of the Europa League - the first League of Ireland side to reach that milestone after a famous away win against Partizan Belgrade.

And the dream didn’t stop there for the former St Louis Grammar School pupil as the draw paired Rovers in the same group as Tottenham Hotspur, along with Russians Ruben Kazan and Greek side PAOK Salonika.

“We can do well against a team like Salonika, and Kazan too,” said O’Neill.

“Spurs will be more difficult but we’ve risen to the occasion before and can do so again.”

O’Neill is certain to be linked with more high-profile jobs and has admitted that he has aspirations to manage at a higher level.
