The comment was made by Mayor, Councillor Audrey Wales, as she officially opened the Cloughwater Road facility on Friday.

The complex boasts a full-sized intermediate standard grass pitch, a floodlit Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA) and a pavilion which offers changing facilities, first aid accommodation and a modern kitchen and social area.

The project received funding of £245,000 from Sport NI, who were represented at the official opening by Board member Danny O’Connor.

Words of priase were also offered to consultant DA Architects, contractors FP McKee Ltd and the entire project team who delivered the facility to such a high standard.

The Mayor told guests: “This is a wonderful asset for use by local schools, community groups and sporting club use.

“In addition, this facility will also play a significant part in the provision of high-profile events within the Ballymena borough and I am proud to announce that the Northern Ireland Milk Cup tournament will be hosting a number of games here this summer.

“The overall aim of this project was to provide a sporting facility which would increase access to opportunities for sporting development and participation for as many people as possible and so improve the quality of life for all members of our community.

“I’m sure you will agree we are well underway to achieving this aim as we see this fantastic facility,” added the Mayor.
