New United keeper Drummond aims to kick-start his career

WAYNE Drummond is prepared to put all thoughts of a return to cross-channel football on hold to rebuild his career with Ballymena United.

The Northern Ireland under-19 keeper’s blossoming career had hit a standstill and he found himself with no club before putting pen to paper on a one-year deal at the Showgrounds last week.

Drummond has had spells at Millwall and Glasgow Rangers but hadn’t been snapped up by anyone else following his release by the Scottish giants in the summer.

“It’s been a frustrating summer for me,” Drummond told Times Sport.

“I didn’t expect to get released by Rangers to start off with.

“It was hard at the time but you can’t dwell on it or sit and feel sorry for yourself.

“I had a half-decent tournament at the Milk Cup but it was still a bit frustrating to start the season with no club.

“But I have now got myself a good club and I’m looking forward to getting settled in and enjoying the rest of the season.

“I’m still young and I suppose I would be lying if I said no (to going back across the water).

“But I’m a Ballymena United player now and I’m looking forward to doing my best for the club.

“I was hoping to play against Cliftonville on Saturday but my clearance didn’t come through.

“That was one of those things but hopefully I can do well in training and get to know the lads a bit more this week.

“I would love to get the nod for the Coleraine game which I know is always a big game for Ballymena,” added Wayne.
