No more new arrivals, insists Ferguson

Glenn Ferguson insists he has no plans to make any further signings in the January transfer window - despite an increasingly hectic fixture schedule.

The replay of the Sky Blues’ Irish Cup tie with Harland & Wolff Welders has added another game to the programme, but Ferguson says he does not plan to add to the signings of Jim Ervin and Darren Boyce.

“That’s me finished, certainly in terms of players coming in,” said Ferguson.

“I don’t know if anyone will want to leave. I’ve said to people all along, if anyone doesn’t want to be here, just rap my door and I’ll not make it too hard for them.

“I understand if people aren’t playing or if they have personal reasons and don’t want to be about the place, that’s football but at this moment in time, there’ll definitely be nobody else coming in.

“The cup replay is another game we’re going to have in midweek, the games are coming thick and fast so we’ll have to take care of the players in the next few weeks.

United resume their quest for a top six finish in the Danske Bank Premiership with an important league game at Dungannon Swifts tonight (Tuesday, 7.45pm).

Midfielder Gavin Taggart is an absentee with bruised ribs after Saturday’s 2-2 draw at Tillysburn Park.

“The players were disappointed with their performance at the weekend and they know they’ll have to do better on Tuesday night, particularly as there is more competition for places.

“We’re up into sixth we have a five-point cushion, albeit Glenavon have games in hand, but I would rather have the points on the board.

We’re only three behind Portadown now and they are the next team we’ll be going after. It won’t be easy by any stretch of the imagination but we’ve got a chance,” added Ferguson.

After tonight’s game, the Sky Blues are at home to Linfield this Saturday (3pm).
