Northend United U11s travelled to Omagh on Saturday to play Mountjoy United in the NIBFA Plate competition and were unlucky to lose 2-0.

In the Lisburn League , John Devlin’s U13s continue to steadily improve and will feel aggrieved they didn’t get all the points against Greenisland Boys in a match that finished 1-1.

Elsewhere in the Lisburn League the U14s, U15s and U16s all lost their League matches against Shankill Juniors, Carrick Rangers and North Belfast respectively.

Mountjoy United 2, Northend United 0: ★Mountjoy edged themselves in-front after seven minutes when their left midfielder latched onto an over-hit cross from the far side of the pitch and volleyed a screamer into the roof of the Blues goal.

In the second half, an early attack from Mountjoy led to the referee awarding a free kick on the edge of the Northend box and the Ballymena boys were unlucky to see a glancing header bounce off the far post and into goal.

With four minutes remaining an in-swinging cross from Cal O’Brien was flicked goal-ward by Callum McMurray and agonisingly hit the post. MOM - Jack Adams.

Northend: C Wilson, D Magill, K Cosgrove, C O’Brien, P Bristow, J Adams, O Campbell, L Hector, C McMurray and J McIlhatton.

Greenisland 1, Northend United 1: Northend started slowly but got stronger as the first half progressed and went in front on the seventeenth minute when Connor Meeke scored a great goal when he shot from a tight angle, from twenty five yards out, and watched on as it flew into the net.

Northend make a few changes at the break and this seemed to favour Greenisland as Northend struggled to get any momentum during the second half. However the Blues felt harshly done when the referee awarded Greenisland a penalty when the ball bounced up and hit a Blues defender between the chest and arm. Greenisland duly converted to draw level in the match. MOM - Oisin Connelly

Northend: J Givens, C Forsythe, J Coates, O Connelly, R Mark, R Gamble, C Meeke, J Lyness, M Rainey, R Dunlop, C Metrustry, C McDonald, M Stewart, R Boomer, R McKillop.

Shankill Juniors 5, Northend United 3: Despite starting the better of the two sides, Northend found themselves two nil down after 20 minutes, caught out by two long balls from defence, both finding Shankill Juniors speedy forward who took both chances well.

In a frantic twenty spell at the start of the second half, Northend scored three very good goals to take the lead. Firstly, Tom Patchett scored to make it 2-1. Conor McGarry made it 2-2 within 4 minutes and John Brady scored Northend’s third to make it 2-3 with 15 minutes to go.

Unfortunately, Shankill scored to make it 3-3, and they took full advantage and scored two more goals to win the match 5-3. MOM - John Brady

Northend United 0, Carrick Rangers 5: This match was a much closer encounter than the scoreline suggests, with Northend conceding a few late goals, and was a repeat of the previous week when the two teams met in the Lisburn Cup. MOM - Josh Mark, Ben McGarvey

Northend: J Mark, J Penny, B Millar, D Dobbin (c), A Shaw, J Wharry, B McGarvey, R Laverty, S Hutchinson, M Kirk, A Campbell, G Macartney, J Adams, E McLaughlin, R Campbell.
