Northend boys draw St Johnstone in Foyle Cup

WITH the Foyle Cup draw being completed in mid-week, Northend 1997s have been drawn against Tournament favourites and Scottish Premier League Academy side St. Johnstone, in what promises to be a game of a lifetime for the Ballymena boys.

Manager Glenn Speirs stated: “These games will be a good measure of how far we have progressed as a team and gives the boys something to aim for.

“To draw a Scottish Premier League Team in a major competition makes all the hard training worthwhile.”

Northend’s 1997’s continue on with their preparation for this year’s Foyle Cup with training sessions on-going at Eaton Park on a Wednesday night.

FRIDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL

Friday night past saw the continuance of the Ballymoney United Youth Mini-Soccer 7-a-side competition which Northend have been invited to participate in.

The Mini-Soccer league, now into its third week of a four week program, saw Northend 2003s play Ballymena United, Coleraine United, Ballycastle and Ballymoney United in an action packed night, winning two and drawing two with goals coming from Oisin O’Mullan, Christie McKillop, Fiontan McQuillan and Calum Kilgore.

Northend’s second 2003 team put in a great performance with Charlie Metrustry scoring a hat-trick in their match against Coleraine.

‘PLAYING FOR THE FUTURE’

On Saturday 16th of June, Northend’s 2003 team head for Portadown to take part in the Playing for the Future Annual Youth Tournament were they will play in 7-a-side games against teams from all over the country. A large group of parents will be going to watch their team play and bus leaves at 7.30 am.

SMALL SIDED GAMES

Following on from the strategic direction from the Football Association, Northend will be entering teams from U9 right up to U11 next year in the small sided games Leagues.

U9s and U10s will play Coleraine and District League at 7-a-side, while the U11s will also play in the Coleraine and District League at 9-a-side.

Trials Days for 1999s to 2004s will be held on Saturday 23rd June and also Saturday 30th June at Ballymena Rugby Club, Eaton Park as follows:

2004s, 2003s and 2002s from 10.00am to 12.00pm.

2001s, 2000s and 1999s from 1.00pm to 3.00pm.

The Trials will be supervised at all times by IFA qualified coaches and everyone will be made to feel most welcome.

CLUB AGM

Northend United Youth FC AGM will be held on Tuesday 19th June in the Michelin Club, commencing at 7.00pm sharp.

All interested parties are welcome to attend, where a report on last year will be displayed and plans for the incoming season will be discussed.
