Northend United sides produce top displays as midweek fixtures resume

With midweek matches now underway, a number of Northend United Youth teams have turned in impressive displays against top opposition.

Stephen White’s U16s cruised to victory against Ridgeway Rovers on Wednesday night while the loudest cheer of the day was reserved for John Devlin’s U13s who equalised against Lisburn Distillery side with the last kick of the game,

The U14s were not so lucky, losing narrowly to Irish League Academy opposition in the form of Portadown Youth and Warrenpoint Town during the week.


Northend United 1, Roe Valley 2: The north west hit Northend with a sucker punch just before half-time when they scored following a defensive lapse.

The equaliser came when Stevie Bristow played the ball across to Jay McKeown to score but Dungiven scored the winner late on.

Northend United 5, Ballymoney Athletic 1: Northend scored an impressive win thanks to a Lewis Hector hat-trick plus further goals from Peter Bristow and David McKay.

Northend United 5, Coleraine Young Ladies U-12 2: The other Northend team at this age group also scored five times, with goals from Niall Devine (2), Jack Connor, Caolan Lennon and Cal O’Brien.

Northend United 4, Roe Valley 0: Northend were comfortable winners in their first competitive game in four weeks with Pat Ferris (2), Jamie Montgomery and Calun Kilgore on the scoresheet.

Lisburn Distillery 3, Northend United 3: Northend came from behind three times in this game with Adam Mooney twice scoring equalisers before Mark Rainey levelled the scores with the last action of the game.

Ballyclare Colts 3, Northend United 1: Northend produced a below par display and were 2-0 down after 20 minutes before Kuba Babuszewski chipped the ball over the Ballyclare keeper.

However, Ballyclare scored the only goal in the second half.

Northend United 3, Ridgeway Rovers 2: Northend produced a greta display in this midweek match with goals from Bradley Cairns, Cameron Neilly and Zack Herbison.

Downpatrick 3, Northend 1: But in their weekend match the Blues were beaten after taking the lead.


A number of the Club’s younger players certainly enjoyed themselves at the annual Larne Soccer Sevens held on Easter Monday at the Sandy Bay pitches

Although a number of teams went undefeated throughout the group stages, it was Vernon Gamble’s U13s who set the pace for the rest of the teams when they were narrowly beaten in the semi-finals by the overall U13 eventual winners, TW Braga.
