Parkhall College footballers shine on international duty

Antrim schoolgirls Emily Wilson and Zoe Kirkpatrick continue to make great strides in international footballing circles.

The Parkhall College due were part of the Northern Ireland under-16 schoolgilr squad who recently took part in a successful tour to Latvia.

In the opening game, Northern Ireland enjoyed a comfortable 5-0 win over Estonia in a match in which every girl was outstanding.

Emily Wilson played the entire 80 minutes. She scored 2 goals, set up 2 goals and had a hand in the other one in her best performance to date for Northern Ireland and a performance which, unsurprisingly earned her the player of the match accolade. Her school friend Zoe Kilpatrick played last 3 minutes.

The second game saw a second win for Northern Ireland as they beat the Faore Islands 2-1.

However, they did not play as well as against Estonia and looked less comfortable when they didn’t have possession. The Faroes went ahead in first half and it took really until the final 20 minutes before the NI girls settled. During this time Emily Wilson scored both of NI’s goals with the winner coming in the last minute. Emily played whole match again, whilst Zoe Kilpatrick got much more game time coming on in 35th minute and playing the rest of game.

The Northern Ireland girls completed a fantastic week with a convincing 4-1 win over hosts Latvia.

In a whirlwind start, the NI girls were 3-0 up after 10 mins with 1 goal from Abbie Magee and 2 stunning strikes from Emily Wilson.

NI were superb and controlled the game at all times, bar a 10 minute period before half time when Latvia pulled a goal back.

Emily completed her hat trick 5 minutes into the 2nd half and killed off the game.

Zoe Kilpatrick played last 20 mins of this game and played with great composure and athletism.

Emily was top goal scorer for the tournament with 7 goals. One more than the whole of the 2nd placed Latvian team put together.

This scoring blitz saw Emily Wilson win player of the tournament and she was awarded a plaque by the organisers of the UEFA tournament, the Latvian FA.
