United’s stunning 6-1 weekend victory over Cliftonville saw the Sky Blues move off the foot of the Danske Bank Premiership table for the first time this season and Ferguson is hopeful the Sky Blues can continue their upward movement as they welcome Ballinamallard United to the Showgrounds this Saturday (3pm).

“We’ve got to take the positives out of the last two performances against Glentoran and Portadown,” said Ferguson.

“We got five goals of our goal difference back on Saturday and two the week before so hopefully we can keep improving that.

“But it doesn’t matter whether you win 1-0 or 6-1 - you still only get three points.

“You can never look too far ahead in this league because last weekend’s results show once again that there are always twists and turns.

“The last two games we’ve been 5/1 with the bookies to beat Glentoran and Cliftonville - for the next two games now we will probably go in as favourites.”

Ferguson is hopeful that he might have on-loan defender Gareth Rodger available after injury to add to his panel this weekend.

The 21-year-old centre-back will continue to receive treatment at this parent club St Johnstone but his hamstring strain isn’t as bad as first feared.

The manager will also have striker Matthew Shevlin available after the teenager spent this week on trial at Crystal Palace.
