The 19-year-old will deputise between the posts for regular stopper Aaron Shanahan, who won’t be risked ahead of the following Saturday’s Irish Cup semi-final against Queen’s.

The teenager, who returned to the Showgrounds in January after a spell with Wakehurst, already has a first team game under his belt, having played in the final game of the 2011-12 season.

“Aaron has been told he won’t play against because the only other keeper we have is cup-tied so we can’t take that risk of something untoward happening.

“Macauley has been told he’ll play and he has plenty of time to prepare for it. He played a match a couple of seasons ago but the looks bigger and stronger than before.

“There may well be a bit of rotation next week with players who maybe haven’t been playing recently but it will still be a strong squad and we’ll be going out looking for three points.

There are players who need playing time and we have to make sure they’re sharp, fit and available.

It remains to be seen whether midfielder Gary Thompson will make the semi-final squad as he continues to receive treatment for a groin injury he picked up the previous week.

“We’re a wee bit concerned about Gary. He doesn’t think he’ll be available for next week so it could be two or three games down the line,” added Ferguson.
