Senior Park stun Ards

BALLYMENA Senior Park faced a tough game in the NIPGL Senior Division 2 last Saturday when they entertained Ards however the Ballymena men shocked the league leaders when they put on their best display of the season to claim all 7 points on offer from an 84-57.

On rink 1 Davy Cupples, John Murdock, Derek Greer and Arnold Kenny were level at 6-6 after 6 ends against P Thompson.

The Ballymena men then won 8 of the next 10 ends to open up a 9 shot lead, however they undid most of the good work when they allowed the visitors back in to the game when the Co. Down rink collected 6 shots on the 17th end to reduced the deficit to only 3 shots, but the Ballymena men steadied themselves over the remaining ends to win by 21 shots to 15.

Artie McAuley, Alan O'Loan, George Beattie and Alex Wilson were never behind against D McCloy on rink 2.

This was a relatively low scoring game with only 32 shots scored over the entire game. The visitors actually won 11 of the 21 ends, but they could only score mostly singles.

The Braid men however scored 3 counts of 3 which enabled them to score a 18-14 victory.

The omens were not good for Andy Hill, Gary Shaw, Tommy Hill and John Millar on rink 3 as they trailed 11-0 against D Gardner after only 4 ends.

After 14 ends the Ballymena rink were still in arrears by 9 shots, but the game changed dramatically over the next 5 ends when the Braid men scored 15 unanswered shots which included a count of 5 and two counts of 4 to lead by 6 shots.

The visitors won the last 2 ends but it was the Ballymena men who held on for an unlikely 22-19 victory.

Keith Burnett, Robert McCready, Neal Garrett and John Elliott were in commanding form on rink 4 against J Eager. After 14 ends the Ballymena rink had won 8 ends to lead by 13 shots to 8, but the visitors were never given a look in after that as Elliott's men won the remaining ends to record a fine 23-9 victory.

Ballymena Senior Park's next game is on Saturday, July 24,when they travel to Cliftonville in the NIPGL Senior League Division 2.
