Skipper aims for Co-Operative Cup success

BALLYMENA United skipper Gary Haveron sounded a rallying cry to his team-mates ahead of the Sky Blues’ Co-Operative Insurance Cup quarter-final against Crusaders tonight (Tuesday).

United take on the Seaview men at the Showgrounds in a match originally called off 10 days ago due to the weather and Haveron is anxious to take the Sky Blues’ promising season to date to a new level.

“Don’t get me wrong, the league is the business as far as the players are concerned, but we are determined to try to get to a final this year – either this one or the Irish Cup,” said Gary, who has been named as the Seven Towers Supporters’ CLub’s Player of the Month for November.

“Top six in the league would be a great achievement for us but to win something would be massive.

“It has always been aim my aim since I’ve been here. I would hate for my time at Ballymena to come and go without picking up some kind of silverware.

“It means everything to me and I know how much it would mean to everyone associated with the club.

“Crusaders is certainly a game we can win.

“We didn’t play particularly well at Dungannon but the game didn’t really allow it – it was very stop-start.

“The Crues will knock the ball around, they have some very good players, but we will have to match that and then show the same determination we showed at Dungannon,” added Haveron.

United fans are reminded that season tickets are not valid for tonight’s game.
