Social Club take big step towards second

The Slemish Drive team took four-and-a-half points from their home clash with Michelin, thereby effectively ending the Woodside Road team’s hopes of claiming ‘silver’ position.

Much of the damage was done on one first half rink, where Andy Bonnar’s foursome enjoyed a crushing 19-3 win over Tom Lithco.

The other three Social Club rinks all scored eight shots apiece - and none of them lost!

Nigel Robinson and Andy Duncan each had narrow wins over Wesley Caldwell and Matthew Boyd, while Michelin’s only crumb of comfort came from half a point earned by Grant Robinson’s rink in an 8-8 tie with Bryan Magrath.

Incidentally, that half-point dropped by Social means that Towers are now mathematically league champions.

Towers’ game at Golf Club was postponed last week due to the death of Graham Maybin’s father Harry and the sympathy of the league is extended to Graham and his family circle.

The only other Division One game saw BPFA ‘A’ maintain their slight hopes of pipping Social Club to second spot by beating JTI 45-19, claiming four of the points in the process.

Robert Black had given Broughshane a solid platform with a 13-2 win over Len McIlroy, but John Kirk’s 10-4 win over Willie Humphrey clawed back some of the deficit.

Alas for JTI, the game slipped completely out of their grasp as a result of David Morrison’s 20-2 thumping of Brian Russell and Alan Cahoon’s 8-5 win over Billy Lynn piled on the misery for the Lisnafillan side.
