SPORTS AWARDS: Davy's commitment to local football honoured

A lifetime of involvement in local football earned David King the Services to Sport award.

He has held many roles within the local game but is most synonymous with his involvement with the Ballymena Saturday Morning League, of which he has been chairman since 1986.

Davy represents the league on a number of bodies including the County Antrim FA and Irish FA, while his administrative skills have also recognised when he was selected for the FIFA fans’ forum for the World Cup in Russia.

Davy is chairman of the local Tottenham Hotspur Supporters’ Club and is the matchday announcer at Ballymena United home matches.

David was unable to attend the function as he was on holiday and his award was collected, from Louise McCollum and Paul Muir, of sponsor Diamond Recruitment, by BSML secretary Brian Montgomery who described Davy as “a tower of strength” for the league.

Also short-listed: Alec McQuillan (GAA).
