MARK Dickson would have been playing FOR Ballymena United rather than against the Sky Blues in Saturday's Irish Cup semi-final, if Kenny Shiels had got his way.
The United boss made an unsuccessful attempt to sign the Larne striker before the transfer window closed at the end of August.
Instead, the former Northampton Town player has gone on to enjoy a stunning season at Inver Park and his 18-goal haul is three times that of Ballymena's leading marksmen!
"I made an up front approach to Jimmy McGeough at that time but it was knocked back.
"Mark is the type of player who is strong with his back to goal and he can play either up the middle or wide on the right, which gives Larne good options.
"He is obviously the main threat but Larne are a very experienced side and they have a great togetherness and spirit about them.
"They have been resting players in the league but I wouldn't read too much into that because they will have a strong team available on the day," added Shiels.
