Strollers clinch promotion in Provincial League

Wakehurst Strollers secured promotion to Junior Division Two of the Ballymena & Provincial League with after a 2-0 victory over neighbours Clough Rangers Athletic last week.

The victory meant Andy Erwin’s side clinched runners-up spot in Junior Division Three behind Rathcoole FC Reserves.

Meanwhile, Brantwood have clinched the intermediate title and will now look to make it a ‘double’ when they take on Rathcoole FC in the Crawford CUp final at Allen Park, Antrim this Friday night (7pm).

INTERMEDIATE LEAGUE

Results: Newtowne 4, Brantwood 4; Rathcoole FC 1, Dunloy 0; Carniny Amateurs 0, Desertmartin 5; FC Ballynure 2, Magherafelt Sky Blues 0.

JUNIOR DIVISION ONE

Results: Ballyclare Comrades Reserves 7, Carnmoney FC 3; Woodlands 4, Mallusk Athletic 3.

JUNIOR DIVISION TWO

Results: Sport & Leisure Swifts Reserves 3, FC Whiteabbey 4; Ballynure Old Boys ‘B’ 2, AFC Carrick 3.

JUNIOR DIVISION THREE

Wakehurst Strollers 2, Clough Rangers Athletic 0: Wakehurst went into this game knowing they had to win in order to gain promotion to Division Two.

With this in mind Wakehurst played it tight at the back during the first-half and at half-time the teams were still level with no goals scored.

The situation changed on the 51st minute when Wakehurst took the lead through a goal scored by Jason Speirs.

After this Clough had to chase the game then on the 72nd minute Player Manager Andy Erwin scored a crucial second goal for Wakehurst that ensured them the tree points at the final whistle.

JUNIOR DIVISION FOUR
