Strollers continue their impressive recent form

Wakehurst Strollers continued their impressive start to the Ballymena & Provincial League campaign on Saturday.

Jason Connolly’s side thrashed Moyola Park Olympic 5-0 at the Showgrounds.

Elsewhere, Chimney Corner suffered their first defeat in the intermediate division when they lost 2-1 to last season’s champions Ballynure Old Boys.

INTERMEDIATE DIVISION

Chimney Corner 1, Ballynure Old Boys 2: After a steady start by both teams Ballynure gained the initiative after Daniel Ellis scored on the 20th minute forcing the Corner to chase the game.

Ballynure went on to double their lead again it was Daniel Ellis on the mark scoring his second goal on the 32nd minute.

Half-time saw Ballynure with a two goal cushion but Corner were not out of the game and after Jason Martin scored on the 65th minute they were back on with a chance of saving the game.

Corner threw caution to the wind after this but Ballynure used their experience to hold out for an important victory.

JUNIOR DIVISION ONE

Antrim Rovers 4, Carnmoney FC 2: Rovers went in front after Darren Adair scored on the 10th minute then doubled their advantage when Jonny Rogers converted a penalty on the 39th minute.

Craig Montgomery pulled a goal back for Carnmoney on the 58th minute followed by Ryan Price scoring the equaliser on the 71st minute.

Rovers then went on to score two more goals through Jordan McKelvey on the 80th and 86th minutes to seal the three points for the Antrim side.

JUNIOR DIVISION TWO

Wakehurst Strollers 5, Moyola Park Olympic 0: Phil Cunningham opened the scoring after ten minutes as he calmly slotted past the goalkeeper when sent through one on one by Paul Gilchrist.

Then Ryan Armstrong’s cross come shot from the left doubled the Strollers’ advantage on 24 minutes.

Conor McKenna made it 3-0 with a good strike from the right after good build up play on 31 minutes before adding his second with a sweetly struck 25 yard strike making it 4-0 three minutes before the interval.

McKenna completed his hat trick on 66 minutes as he coolly lobbed the goalkeeper after being sent through by Gilchrist for number five.

The win keeps the Strollers unbeaten in the league and moves them to second place, two points behind Larne Olympic but with a game in hand over the Inver Men.
