Superb away win for Junior Park

BALLYMENA Junior Park made the journey last Saturday to play Salisbury where they put on an excellent performance to return home with 6 of the 7 points available from a 91-56 win.

Tommy Glass, Jordan Millar, Nigel McFadden and Robert Mark took on M Jones on rink 1.

The first 12 ends were close with the Braid men holding a slender one shot lead, but the game changed in favour of the home rink when they won the next 4 ends to take a 7 shot lead. The remaining ends were shared and in the end the visitors had to accept defeat by 19 shots to 12.

The visiting rink of Roy Kernohan, John McAnally, Liam Lyness and Alan McCombe found the green to their liking when they raced in to an 11 shot lead after 6 ends against K Rice on rink 2.

The Braid rink continued to dominate the game and in a strong finish which included a count of 6 shots on the 18th ends they went on record an excellent win by 29 shots to 10.

The scores were level at 5-5 after 7 ends on rink 3 where Clifford Duncan, Joe McKernan, Jimmy Shields and Billy Scullion were drawn against E Loughran.

Scores of 4,2,0,3 over the next 4 ends saw the visitors take control of the game and they were able to go on and record a comfortable 20-15 victory.

On rink 4 Jimmy Alexander, Sammy Small, Roy Hutchinson and Davy Balmer trailed by 2 shots after 6 ends on rink 4 against M Allen.

The remainder of the game however belonged to the Ballymena men. They won the next 7 ends to turn a 2 shot deficit in to a 14 shot lead and they continued the rest of the game in good form eventually winning by 30 shots to 12.

An away match at Cliftonville is Ballymena Junior Park’s next match on Saturday, July 24.
