Teggart happy with four goals in a week

ALLY Teggart admits that finding his goalscoring boots could not have come at a more opportune time for Ballymena United.

The winger took his tally to four goals in eight days by following up three successful conversions from the penalty spot with the winner in Saturday’s Danske Bank Premiership win over Glenavon.

“Three of them were penalties so it’s always nice to get on the scoresheet from open play,” said Teggart, who breathed a huge sigh of relief after fluffing two golden opportunities earlier in the game.

“I was relieved to get what turned out to be the winner, not so much for myself but for the team.

“In the first half I missed quite a few chances – at least they were on target and Andy Coleman pulled off some good saves but on a one-v-one with the keeper, you expect to put them away.

“I regretted those misses even more when Glenavon equalised because they were right back in the game.

“Luckily enough we went straight up the field and scored within 30 seconds to get our noses back in front.

“I’ve sent myself a target to get on the scoresheet a bit more this season and I opened my account against Portadown last week.

“I’m playing in a bit more of an advanced role with a wee bit more freedom than an out and out winger.

“Glenn has changed the formation this year, playing 4-3-3 which seems to suit us as it gives us more attacking options and more bodies in the box.

“With Gary McCutcheon gone, obviously people are asking who is going to score the goals but the boss says he thinks there are players in this team who can chip in with goals from different areas.

“I was injured at the start of the season and then I was away at a wedding one weekend so that has slowed down my momentum personally but I’m getting my match sharpness back and hoping to keep putting in the performances.

“We’ll be looking to get a few more points on the board in the matches we have coming up because the way any team can beat any other team in this league, if you can put a couple of results together you can move up the table very quickly,” added Ally.
