The Maghera man United’s goalkeeper has been between the sticks at the Showgrounds for 10 years this year and there will be up and coming events starting this month to mark the milestone for the Sky Blues shot-stopper!

Nelson made his debut as a 16-year-old under the management of Kenny Shiels and after short spells with Coleraine and Dungannon Swifts, he was re-signed by Roy Walker.

Dwayne said: “It’s been an amazing ten years here at BUFC, with many ups and downs over my time at the club.

“It’s been a pleasure to wear the badge for such a long time and have a real love for the club and the people of the town,” said Nelson, who reached the 200-game milestone for Ballymen earlier this season.

To mark the end of his tenth year at Ballymena United we have organised a testimonial committee to arrange some upcoming events over the next few months.

The first event is a Last Man Standing Competition which will then lead onto A Night at the Races, a cultural event and a golf day to name a few.

This is a great opportunity for players, fans and local people to get together for a bit of fun away from the pitch.

“Ballymena United have some of the most loyal and dedicated followers and I am truly grateful for their support over my time at the club.

“We have aimed to organise events to appeal to a range of people and interests and really hope that they will be well supported,” added Dwayne.

The Last Man Standing kicks off Saturday the 21st February and will operate in much the same way as the previous competition run by the club.

If you are interested in entering please speak to Davy Douglas or Philip Simpson. Entry will be £10.

Dwayne will be having a Testimonial match at the Showgrounds with the opposition to be confirmed yet.
